Foamable polymeric compositions comprising a peroxide-modified linear low-density polyethylene, which comprises the reaction product of a peroxide and a linear low-density polyethylene, and a blowing agent. The peroxide-modified linear low-density polyethylene is thermoplastic. Also disclosed are foamed polymeric compositions prepared from such foamable polymeric compositions and methods for making such foamed polymeric compositions. The foamed polymeric compositions described herein are suitable for use in a variety of articles of manufacture, particularly in the wire and cable industry.

The present invention relates generally to the use of talc as a chemical foaming agent in perfluoropolymers to form foamable and foamed compositions. For example, in one aspect, a foamable composition is disclosed, which comprises (i) one or more base perfluoropolymers comprising at least 50 percent by weight of the composition, and (ii) talc blended with the one or more base perfluoropolymers, where the talc comprises 3 percent to about 15 percent by weight of the composition. Each of the perfluoropolymers is selected from the group consisting of tetrafluoroethylene/perfluoromethylvinyl ether copolymer (MFA), hexafluoropropylene/tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (FEP) and perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) and any blend thereof, where hydrogen-containing fluoropolymers are absent from the composition. The one or more base perfluoropolymers are melt-processable at one or more elevated processing temperatures of at least about 600 F. at which the talc functions as a chemical foaming agent for extrusion or mold processing of the composition into a foamed article having uniform cell structures.

Foamable polyolefin composition providing increased flexibility

The invention relates to a foamable polymer composition comprising a polyolefin polymer which polyolefin polymer does not bear silane moieties and comprises 20 to 99.99 wt. % linear low density polyethylene, and a blowing agent in an amount of 0.01 to 3 wt. % based on the total foamable polymer composition, wherein the blowing agent consists of citric acid and/or derivatives of citric acid or mixtures thereof. Further the invention relates to a foamable polymer composition comprising a polyolefin polymer, and a blowing agent in an amount of 0.01 to 3 wt. % based on the total foamable polymer composition, wherein the blowing agent consists of expandable polymeric microspheres, and the composition does not comprise fluororesin. Further the invention relates to a foamed polymer composition obtained by foaming this foamable polymer composition. Further the invention relates to the use of the foamable composition or the foamed polymer composition for a layer of a cable and a cable comprising at least one layer which comprises the foamable polymer composition or the foamed polymer composition.
