A foam is described. The foam comprising a polymer matrix including at least one of chitin, chitosan, or chitosan oligosaccharide. The polymer matrix is porous. The foam further comprising alginate. The foam has a density of less than 1 g/cm.sup.3. A method of making foam is described. The method comprising dissolving at least one of chitin, chitosan, or chitosan oligosaccharide in a first solution, dissolving alginate in a second solution that is alkaline and separate from the first solution, mixing the first solution and the second solution together to form a foam precursor, and drying the foam precursor to form the foam.

Bio-based UV-curable 3D printed resin and preparation method thereof

A bio-based UV-curable 3D printed resin includes the following components by weight percentage: 19-78% of biodegradable starch resin polymer, 1-9% of radical initiator, 0.2-4% of adjuvant, 13-62% of reactive diluent and 2-8% hydroxyethyl starch. The preparation method thereof comprises the following steps of: mixing the above components by component proportion, ultrasonically washing the mixture for 10-20 min by an ultrasonic cleaner under a water temperature of 50° C., and then mixing the same in a homogenizer homogeneously to obtain the bio-based UV-curable 3D printed resin. The renewable resources are adopted and the environmental pollution and energy consumption are reduced, which is of bio-safety. Moreover, the hydroxyethyl starch has a high molecular compound generated by hydroxyethylation of glucose ring of amylose, resulting in various benefits. The 3D printed resin obtained has excellent performance and low skin irritation value.

Degradable, Printable Poly(Propylene Fumarate)-Based ABA Triblock Elastomers

In various embodiments, the present invention is directed to ABA triblock copolymers having crosslinkable poly(propylene fumarate A blocks and a more flexible poly(lactone) B block formed by sequential ring-opening polymerization and ring-opening copolymerization. These ABA triblock polymers made using ring-opening polymerization of one or more lactone monomers using a bifunctional initiator to form a poly(lactone) B block having terminal hydroxyl groups and the ring-opening copolymerization of maleic anhydride and propylene oxide followed by isomerization of the maleate double bond using an organic base to form the poly(propylene fumarate)(PPF) A blocks. When crosslinked photochemically using, for example, a continuous liquid interface production digital light processing (DLP) Carbon M2 printer, these ABA type triblock copolymers form durable elastomers with tunable degradation and elastic properties. In various embodiments, these polymers are shown to undergo slow, hydrolytic degradation in vitro with minimal loss of mechanical performance during degradation.
