IMMOBILIZATION OF INSOLUBLE PARTICLES IN POLYMER

A method of immobilization of an insoluble dopant. In some embodiments, the insoluble dopant comprises a coordination polymer. In some embodiments, the insoluble dopant comprises a vapochromic coordination polymer. The method may comprise dissolving a polymer carrier in a solvent. The polymer carrier may comprise a thermoplastic such as, but not limited to, polylactic acid, polyethylene glycol or polycarbonate. The insoluble dopant (e.g. a coordination polymer such as a vapochromic coordination polymer) may then be mixed into the dissolved polymer. Phase separation of the mixture of the dopant and dissolved polymer may be induced to form a hydrogel. The hydrogel may be employed as is (e.g. as a raw material for hydrogel 3D printing, as a sensing material, etc.) or may undergo further processing (e.g. solidification, grinding, extrusion, etc.) before being employed, for example, as a raw material for 3D printing, as a sensing material, etc.

PREPREG, MOLDED ARTICLE, AND INTEGRALLY MOLDED ARTICLE

A prepreg and an integrally molded article are described, the prepreg including a thermoplastic resin existing on one face of a layer in which reinforcing fibers are impregnated with a thermosetting resin, wherein the prepreg exhibits, in injection molding or press molding, thermal weldability with a member containing a thermoplastic resin, and wherein the thermosetting resin has a specific peak on a loss tangent (tan δ) curve obtained by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), so that the prepreg exhibits suitable flexibility and adhesiveness, excellent formability on a complicated mold face, and adhesion to a mold face, causes no positional shift, and can be efficiently reinforced and stiffened at an intended position.

Fibre reinforcement of reactive foams obtained by a moulding foam method

The present invention relates to a molding made of reactive foam, wherein at least one fiber (F) is arranged partially inside the molding, i.e. is surrounded by the reactive foam. The two ends of the respective fiber (F) not surrounded by the reactive foam thus each project from one side of the corresponding molding. The reactive foam is produced by a mold foaming process. The present invention further provides a panel comprising at least one such molding and at least one further layer (S1). The present invention further provides processes for producing the moldings according to the invention from reactive foam/the panels according to the invention and also provides for the use thereof as a rotor blade in wind turbines for example.

Shape Memory Polymers

New shape memory polymer compositions, methods for synthesizing new shape memory polymers, and apparatus comprising an actuator and a shape memory polymer wherein the shape memory polymer comprises at least a portion of the actuator. A shape memory polymer comprising a polymer composition which physically forms a network structure wherein the polymer composition has shape-memory behavior and can be formed into a permanent primary shape, re-formed into a stable secondary shape, and controllably actuated to recover the permanent primary shape. Polymers have optimal aliphatic network structures due to minimization of dangling chains by using monomers that are symmetrical and that have matching amine and hydroxl groups providing polymers and polymer foams with clarity, tight (narrow temperature range) single transitions, and high shape recovery and recovery force that are especially useful for implanting in the human body.

Systems and methods for forming short-fiber films, composites comprising thermosets, and other composites

The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for composites, including short-fiber films and other composites. In certain aspects, composites comprising a plurality of aligned fibers are provided. The fibers may be substantially aligned, and may be present at relatively high densities within the composite. For example, the composite may include substantially aligned carbon fibers embedded within a thermoplastic substrate. The composites may be prepared, in some aspects, by dispersing fibers by neutralizing the electrostatic interactions between the fibers, for example using aqueous liquids containing the fibers that are able to neutralize the electrostatic interactions that typically occur between the fibers. The liquids may be applied to a substrate, and the fibers may be aligned using techniques such as shear flow and/or magnetism. Other aspects are generally directed to methods of using such composites, kits including such composites, or the like.
