A process for preparing a fiber reinforced thermoplastic is disclosed. The process includes melting a first thermoplastic and a second thermoplastic in a melting zone of a twin-screw processor, feeding at least one continuous fiber downstream of the melting zone into a melted mixture of the first thermoplastic and the second thermoplastic, incorporating the at least one continuous fiber into the melted mixture in a mixing zone, the mixing zone including at least one wave element having a continuous outer surface in the form of a helical wave, and obtaining the fiber reinforced thermoplastic from the twin screw processor. Further, a fiber reinforced thermoplastic composition prepared by an extrusion process the composition having a density between 1.3 g/cc to 1.7 g/cc and a flexural modulus of at least 4000 MPa is disclosed.

BLOCK COPOLYMERS AND USES THEREOF

A polymer composition comprising a star-branched copolymer having a plurality of arms is disclosed. Each polymer arm has a molecular weight Mp of from 1 kg/mol to 50 kg/mol and comprises polymerized units (i) derived from a first vinyl aromatic monomer comprising a radical-reactive group, wherein from greater than 10 mol % to 100 mol % of the units (i) are unhydrogenated; and optionally, polymerized units (ii) comprising hydrogenated and unhydrogenated forms of polymerized units derived from a high Tg monomer, and hydrogenated form of polymerized units (i) or hydrogenated form of polymerized styrene units; and optionally, polymerized units (iii) comprising (a) hydrogenated form of polymerized units derived from one or more acyclic conjugated dienes, and (b) polymerized units derived from one or more of a second vinyl aromatic monomer; wherein less than 10 wt. % of units (a) are unhydrogenated.

The composition for a fiber-reinforced resin includes a block polymer (A), and a polymer (B) including at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of an epoxy group, an oxazoline group, and an acid anhydride structure.

A thermoplastic elastomer compound includes hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer having a polyisoprene soft block, styrene-isobutylene-styrene block copolymer, tackifier having a softening point of at least about 80 C. according to ASTM 6493, and, optionally, one or more additional thermoplastic elastomers. The compound has a Compound Tan Delta Peak Temperature (at 10 Hz) of at least 10 C. and a Compound Tan Delta Peak Height (at 10 Hz) of at least 0.85 if no thermoplastic polyurethane is present and at least 0.60 if additional thermoplastic elastomer is present and includes thermoplastic polyurethane. The thermoplastic elastomer compound exhibits superior damping properties across a broad range of temperatures, including at or above room temperature, and across a broad range of vibrational frequencies. The compound in sheet form can be used as a layer in an article of a structure susceptible to forceful impact of any item.

RESIN COMPOSITION, MOLDED ARTICLE AND HEAT-EXPANDABLE MICROSPHERES

A resin composition containing heat-expandable microspheres including a thermoplastic resin shell and a thermally vaporizable blowing agent encapsulated therein and at least one base resin selected from rubbers, olefin resins and thermoplastic elastomers. The thermoplastic resin is a polymer of a polymerizable component containing N-substituted maleimide and a nitrile monomer containing methacrylonitrile. Also disclosed are molded articles manufactured by molding the resin composition.

The resulting treated rubber exhibits properties similar to those of the virgin composite rubber structure prior to being granulated, and is suitable for use in fabricating new tires, engineered rubber articles, and asphalt rubber for use in waterproofing and paving applications.
