3D PRINTING OF BIOMEDICAL IMPLANTS

Provided herein are methods, compositions, devices, and systems for the 3D printing of biomedical implants. In particular, methods and systems are provided for 3D printing of biomedical devices (e.g., endovascular stents) using photo-curable biomaterial inks (e.g., or methacrylated poly(diol citrate)).

Graphene nanoplatelet modified sheet molding compositions

A sheet molding compound (SMC) is provided with superior conductivity properties based on the use of graphitics. A process for exfoliation of GnP and turbostratic carbon is also provided. By exfoliating the graphitics, a reduced amount of material can confer comparable properties relative to native GnPs or turbostratic carbon thereby reducing the amount of material usage, but also reducing negative effects to the base resin formulation through inclusion of these additives. Particular utility is found in thermoset resin molding to produce articles that are amenable to electrostatic coating and other surface treatments that rely on surface conductivity and especially in the realm of vehicle body parts.

METHODS OF RECYCLING AND RESHAPING THERMOSETTING POLYMERS AND COMPOSITES THEREOF
20220389185 · 2022-12-08 ·

Various methods of reshaping and recycling thermoset polymers and composites containing thermoset polymers are provided. The methods involve the bond exchange reaction of exchangeable covalent bonds in the polymer matrix with a suitable small molecule solvent in the presence of a catalyst. In some aspects, the methods are applied to a carbon fiber reinforced polymer or a thermoset polymer where the thermoset polymer matrix includes a plurality of ester bonds. Using a small molecule alcohol, the methods provide for recycling one or both of the carbon fiber and the polymer, for welding two surfaces, or for repairing a damaged surface in the materials.

METHOD FOR CHEMICAL UPCYCLING OF RESINS CONTAINING ESTER BONDS
20230357533 · 2023-11-09 ·

A method for chemical upcycling of the resins containing ester bonds is described herein. The method comprises two steps: (1) The resins dissolved into a catalyst-solvent system via a network fragmentation strategy to generate non-crosslinked polymer fragment mixture with functional groups. (2) After introducing additives and reacting for predetermined time, a reconfigurable strong resin and a photocurable resin with repeated recyclability are obtained. The low energy consumption and cost, the high performance and economical value added of the regenerated productions, and the ease implement without changing the commodity products and manufacturing facilities make it attractive and suitable for the recycling of the resin wastes.
