To this end, the invention concerns a composite film comprising a polyester substrate, at least one coating adhering on at least one of the faces of the substrate and at least one layer of primer for cross-linked adhesion between the substrate and the coating. Said primer comprises at least one acrylic and/or methacrylic polymer P1, at least one acrylic and/or methacrylic polymer P2 different from P1, at least one cross-linking agent, and, preferably, at least one polyester that is soluble or dispersible in water: —P1 having a gel content TG1>70% by dry weight with respect to P1; —P2 having a gel content TG2≤TG1 and ≤20% by dry weight, with respect to P2; —P1 having a surface-grafted free weak acid content≥0.8 in meq/g of polymer; —[P2]≤60% by weight on dry by weight in respect to P1+P2. The method for producing said film, the adhering primer, and the articles obtained using said film, also form part of the present invention.

ENHANCED PVOH-BASED BARRIER LAYER COMPOSITION, BARRIER LAYER AND METHODS FOR ITS MANUFACTURE
There is provided a packaging material comprising a fibre based substrate and a gas barrier layer based on a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), wherein said gas barrier layer comprises an interpolymer complex forming agent (IPCFA), which IPCFA is a water-soluble polymer exhibiting functional groups capable of forming hydrogen bonds with —OH groups of the PVOH. Said PVOH has a weight average molecular weight (M.sub.w) measured according to ASTM D4001-13 in the range of about 80 kg/mol to 135 kg/mol, the proportion of said IPCFA to PVOH in said gas barrier layer is in the range of 0.5 to 7.0% (w/w) and said packaging material has an oxygen permeability (OP) below 14 ml μm/m.sup.2 day atm, which OP is obtained by multiplying the oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of the packaging material measured according to ASTM F1927-7 at a relative humidity (RH) of 80% and 23° C. by the thickness of the gas barrier layer.
Gas barrier film
A gas barrier film including a substrate film containing a resin, and a gas barrier layer that has oxygen barrier properties and is in contact with at least one surface of the substrate film, a surface of the gas barrier layer has a flat portion, and a plurality of protrusions that protrude from the flat portion. The number of protrusions that satisfy the following formula (1) is 0 to 200 per mm.sup.2, and the number of protrusions that satisfy the following formula (2) is 20 or more per mm.sup.2; d×2≤f(1); and 0.2≤f<d×2(2), where d represents a thickness (μm) of the gas barrier layer, and f represents a height (μm) of each of the plurality of protrusions.
METHOD FOR FORMING A PVOH BASED BARRIER LAYER ON A SUBSTRATE
There is provided a method for the production of a packaging material comprising a substrate and a gas barrier layer based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), said method comprising the steps of—applying a coating composition of said PVOH dissolved in a first solvent onto said substrate to form a coating—subjecting the coating to a first drying step to form a dried PVOH-based coating on said substrate, contacting the dried PVOH-based coating with a crosslinking solution comprising a crosslinking agent in a second solvent, to effect crosslinking of the PVOH-based coating, and—subsequent to the contact with the crosslinking solution, subjecting the PVOH-based coating to a second drying step, forming the PVOH-based barrier layer on said substrate, with the proviso that if the crosslinking solution comprises PVOH, the amount of PVOH added by the crosslinking solution is less than 20% (by weight), such as less than 10% (by weight), of the amount of PVOH added by the coating composition.

MICROPOROUS SHEET PRODUCT AND METHODS FOR MAKING AND USING THE SAME
Microporous sheet product and methods of making and using the same. In one embodiment, the microporous sheet product is made by a process that includes melt-extruding a sheet material using an extrusion mixture that includes a thermoplastic polymer, a superabsorbent polymer, and a compatibilizing agent. After extrusion, the compatibilizing agent may be removed from the sheet material. When the sheet product is imbibed with a polar or ion-containing liquid, the superabsorbent polymer swells, causing a reduction in the pore size of the sheet product. The exposure also causes some of the superabsorbent polymer to migrate to the exterior of the microporous sheet product. The microporous sheet product may be used, for example, as a battery separator, as a food packaging material, as a diffusion barrier in the ultrafiltration of colloidal matter, and in disposable garments.
