A reinforced composite material comprises a blend of a thermoplastic matrix and cellulosic fibers, wherein the thermo-plastic matrix comprises a tarry residue fraction from a lignocellulosic biomass liquefaction process. A process for the manufacture of the reinforced composite material comprises subjecting a lignocellulosic biomass to liquefaction in the presence of a liquefaction solvent to form a liquefaction product and a tarry residue; separating the tarry residue from the liquefaction product; and blending the tarry residue with cellulosic fibers to form a recyclable reinforced thermoplastic composite material.

A polyvinyl chloride polymer (PVC) composite material is described herein. The PVC composite material includes 40-60 parts by weight of PVC, 40-60 parts by weight of calcium carbonate, 0.2-0.6 parts by weight of composite foaming agent, 3-5 parts by weight of foam regulator, 2-4 parts by weight of toughener, 0.8-1.2 parts by weight of lubricant, and 2-3 parts by weight of stabilizer. Meanwhile, the present invention provides a foam board made of the PVC composite material and flooring. The resulting PVC products have a high-strength structure and a good foaming property, bring the comfort to feet as the resilient flooring does, have a satisfied sound reduction and can be easily installed as the hard flooring could.

This invention relates to a biodegradable hydrophobic or omniphobic coating with tailorable properties for various applications. The technology's hydrophobic modifications, surface functionalization, and surface roughness modifications enable low contact angle hysteresis for easy roll-off and self-cleaning properties. The composite is based on polymer substrate(s) or functionalized polymer substrate(s), filler(s), inorganic(s), binder(s), Lycopodium, or a combination of materials. The Lycopodium may be functionalized with suitable end groups for better adhesion or to impart beneficial properties. The polymer(s) and other constituents may be deposited on the substrate by various methods including spin coating, dip coating, spray coating, sputter coating, electrospinning, solvent casting, or extrusion. Binders and chemicals are incorporated in suitable chronology with or without the solvents of choice.

A foaming process for converting fibrous material into a cellular foam structure includes mixing fibrous material and a solvent-based binding agent to form a mixture; saturating the mixture with a pressurized gas to form a gas-saturated mixture; expanding the gas-saturated mixture by reducing the pressure of the pressurized gas to form an expanded mixture with voids in the fibrous material; and curing the expanded mixture to set the fibrous material and drive off the solvent to provide a stable network of fibrous material having cushioning properties.
