Copolymer, wetting agent, medical device, and method for producing same
Disclosed are: a polymer for treating the surface of a medical device such as a contact lens to suppress the reduction in lubricity of the device even when the device is scrubbed; a medical device having the polymer on the surface so that the reduction in lubricity over time is suppressed; and a wetting agent containing the polymer. The polymer for treating the surface is a copolymer which is water-soluble and includes as constitutional units the following monomers A and B: monomer A: a monomer containing a (meth)acryloyl group and an ester or amide structure in a molecule, in which the ester or amide structure is not constituted by including a part of the (meth)acryloyl group; monomer B: a monomer containing a (meth)acrylamide group in a molecule and having a structure different from that of the monomer A.

Polyether block amide-poly(meth)acrylate foams
A mixture contains at least one polyether block amide (PEBA) and at least one poly(meth)acrylate, selected from poly(meth)acrylimides, poly-alkyl(meth)acrylates, and mixtures thereof. The mass ratio of PEBA to poly(meth)acrylate is 95:5 to 60:40. The polyalkyl(meth)acrylate contains 80% by weight to 99% by weight of methyl methacrylate (MMA) units and 1% by weight to 20% by weight of C1-C10-alkyl acrylate units, based on the total weight of polyalkyl(meth)acrylate. The mixture can be processed to give foamed mouldings. The mouldings can he used in footwear soles, stud material, insulation or insulating material, damping components, lightweight components, or in a sandwich structure.
EPOXY COMPOSITION CONTAINING COPOLYAMIDE AND BLOCK COPOLYMER WITH POLYAMIDE AND POLYETHER BLOCKS
A composition that toughens and impact modifies epoxy resin based compositions comprising one or more co-polyamides and one or more block copolymers with polyamide and polyether blocks. The disclosure also relates to epoxy resin compositions containing the composition comprising one or more co-polyamides and one or more block copolymers with polyamide and polyether blocks and films, adhesives, foamable compositions and foamed compositions containing such a composition.
High impact resistant poly(lactic acid) blends
The notched Izod impact toughness and tensile elongation of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)-homopolymers are increased by about 2 to about 4 times by blending therewith a PLA-copolymer having a difunctional flexible middle segment such as a polysiloxane or a polyether from about 0.6 wt. % to about 20 wt. %. The PLA-homopolymer-PLA-copolymer blend having a difunctional flexible polymer from about 0.5 wt. % to about 10 wt. % is thermally annealed to provide impact toughness of at least about 5 kJ/m.sup.2 and tensile elongation of greater than 12%. This exceptional improvement observed in the PLA blend is a synergistic effect of the addition of the difunctional flexible polymer of the copolymer and thermal annealing. The improvement observed in the mechanical properties with high PLA homopolymer content above about 90 to about 98 wt. % is unusual and results in an increased scope of molding and thermoforming applications. The annealed PLA-copolymers having a difunctional flexible middle segment have also been found to have improved notched Izod impact properties.
FORMULAS AND METHODS FOR MAKING SHELF-STABLE ANTIMICROBIAL BIPHASIC POLYMERS
Disclosed herein is a shelf-stable, two-part formula for making an antimicrobial biphasic polymer. Some variations provide a two-part formula for fabricating a biphasic polymer, wherein the two-part formula consists essentially of (A) a first liquid volume, wherein the first liquid volume comprises: a structural phase containing a solid structural polymer; a transport phase containing a solid transport polymer; a chain extender; a curing catalyst; a first solvent; and (B) a second liquid volume that is volumetrically isolated from the first liquid volume, wherein the second liquid volume comprises: a crosslinker that is capable of crosslinking the solid structural polymer with the solid transport polymer; and a second solvent. An antimicrobial agent (e.g., quaternary ammoniums salts) may be contained in the first liquid volume or in the second liquid volume. Methods of making and using the antimicrobial biphasic polymer are described.
Thermally curable resin composition and film obtained therefrom
The present invention relates, in one aspect, to a thermosetting resin composition including an epoxy resin, an isocyanate resin, a polyrotaxane resin, and a curing agent, wherein the isocyanate resin includes a hexamethylene skeleton and at least one selected from a biuret skeleton, an isocyanurate skeleton, an allophanate skeleton, a neopentyl skeleton, a butylene skeleton, and a dicarboxyl skeleton in a structure thereof.
Branched Wetting Agents For Enhanced Treatment of Drought Field Conditions
This invention relates to multi-branched block copolymers suitable for use as wetting agents. The multi-branched block copolymers are comprised of an oxygen-containing polyfunctional base compound having at least 3 EO/PO block copolymer branches attached thereto. The improvement lies in: (a) the percent hydrophobic component, as defined as the weight % PO in the molecule, being present in an amount from 40% to 60% by weight and in (b) the molecular weight per branch (or arm), as defined as the total number average molecular weight of the polymer divided by the functionality of the base being greater than 1700 gmol.sup.−1arm.sup.−1. It was surprisingly discovered that this combination of intermediate hydrophobicity and high molecular weight give superior drought tolerance for plants treated therewith.
