Thermoplastic Resin Composition and Molded Article Produced Therefrom
A thermoplastic resin composition comprises: about 100 parts by weight of a polycarbonate resin; about 3 parts by weight to about 20 parts by weight of a rubber-modified aromatic vinyl copolymer resin; about 12 parts by weight to about 28 parts by weight of talc having an average particle size of about 8 μm to about 20 μm and a blackness degree L* of less than about 90; about 5 parts by weight to about 20 parts by weight of acicular inorganic fillers; and about 10 parts by weight to about 30 parts by weight of a phosphorus flame retardant. The thermoplastic resin composition can have good properties in terms of light shielding, impact resistance, dimensional stability, flame retardancy, balance therebetween, and the like.

The invention relates to a composition comprising a) a thermoplastic matrix polymer based on one or more ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomer(s), wherein the thermoplastic polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polystyrene, polyacrylates, ethylene-vinylacetate copolymer, and copolymers and blends of the aforementioned, b) an inorganic flame retardant, c) a polymer based on one or more ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers and having a plurality of alkoxysilane and/or acetoxysilane groups covalently linked to the polymer, wherein the ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers of component c) are different or have a different composition than the ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s) of component a) and d) a clay.

The invention provides a thermoplastic resin composition having (A) a thermoplastic polymer comprising (a1) 5 mass % to less than 50 mass % of a propylene polymer having a melting point of 150° C. or higher, (a2) 10 mass % to less than 60 mass % of an ethylene polymer, (a3) 5 mass % to less than 50 mass % of, for example, a hydrogenated product of a block copolymer of an aromatic vinyl compound and a conjugated diene compound, and (a4) 1 mass % to less than 30 mass % of, for example, an unsaturated carboxylic acid-modified olefin polymer; (B) a softener for nonaromatic rubbers; (C) a metal hydrate; (D) an organic peroxide; (E) an antioxidant; and (F) a coupling agent.
TRANSPARENT ULTRA-LOW HALOGEN FLAME RETARDANT POLYCARBONATE COMPOSITIONS WITH V0 AT 0.6 MM
A flame retardant composition comprising: a poly(carbonate-bisphenol phthalate ester); an organophosphorous compound wherein the organophosphorous compound is present in an amount effective to provide 0.5-0.9 wt % of added phosphorous, based on the total weight of the composition; and a poly(carbonate-monoarylate phthalate ester), wherein the composition has a bromine or chlorine content of less than or equal to 100 parts per million by weight, less than or equal to 75 parts per million by weight, or less than or equal to 50 parts per million by weight, based on the total parts by weight of the composition; and wherein a molded sample of the flame retardant composition has a UL 94 rating of V0 at a thickness of 0.6 millimeter, and a transmission of at least 70% according to ASTM D 1003 at a thickness of 1.0 millimeter.
FLAME RETARDANT POLYCARBONATE COMPOSITIONS AND THIN-WALL ARTICLES MADE THEREFROM
A flame retardant composition comprising: 34-94 wt % of a homopolycarbonate, acopolycarbonate, or a combination thereof; 5-85 wt % poly(carbonate-siloxane), in an amount effective to provide 2-6 wt % dimethyl siloxane; 0.05-0.6 w t%, preferably 0.2-0.4 wt%, of a C.sub.1-16 alkyl sulfonate salt flame retardant; 1-15 wt % of a mineral-filled silicone flame retardant synergist; 0.05-0.5 wt % of an anti-drip agent; wherein each amount is based on the total weight of the flame retardant composition, which sums to 100 wt %; and wherein a molded sample of the flame retardant composition has a Vicat softening temperature of greater than or equal to 140° C. as measured according to the ISO-306 standard at a load of 10 N and a heating rate of 50° C. per hour, and a flame test rating of V0 as measured according to UL-94 at a thickness of 1.0 millimeter, or at a thickness of 0.8 millimeter.

A polymeric composition includes a silane functionalized polyolefin; a brominated flame retardant having a Temperature of 5% Mass Loss from 350° C. to 500° C. and from 2 wt % to 50 wt % Retained Mass at 650° C., wherein the 5% Mass Loss and Retained Mass at 650° C. are measured according to Thermogravimetric Analysis; and antimony trioxide, wherein the polymeric composition has an antimony (Sb) to bromine (Br) molar ratio (Sb:Br molar ratio) of greater than 0.0 to 0.35. A coated conductor may be formed using the polymeric composition.
