BIODEGRADABLE POLYMER COMPOSITION FOR THE PRODUCTION OF MOLDED ITEMS

Biodegradable polymer composition for the production of molded items comprising: i. 5-70% by weight of a polyester comprising units derived from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, succinic acid and a C.sub.5-C.sub.24 saturated dicarboxylic acid; and units derived from a saturated aliphatic diol and an unsaturated aliphatic diol; ii 0-40% by weight of a polyester comprising units derived from succinic acid and units derived from a saturated aliphatic diol and an unsaturated aliphatic diol; iii. 23-43% by weight of a polyhydroxyalkanoate; iv. 10-20% by weight of a filler; v. 0-0.5% by weight of a cross-linking agent and/or chain extender.

BIODEGRADABLE RESIN AND FILM PREPARED THEREBY

The present invention provides a biodegradable resin having an intrinsic viscosity of 1.0 dL/g or more, and having a loss rate of intrinsic viscosity of 10% or more after treatment at 70° C. and 85% RH for 6 hr. The present invention also provides a biodegradable resin containing 70 wt% or more of polylactic acid and having a relative biodegradation rate up to 90% or more within 12 months when the degradability in home composting at 28° C. is evaluated according to the conditions specified in ASTM D5338-15. The biodegradable resin has the characteristics of fast biodegradation speed and stable storage, has good mechanical properties, optical properties and barrier properties, can be applicable to various aspects including packaging and express transportation, and will quickly biodegrade into carbon dioxide, water and other small molecules without contamination to the environment at the end of service life. The present invention also provides a biodegradable resin film using the biodegradable resin and a product thereof, and a multilayer film containing the biodegradable resin film and a product thereof.

COMPOSTABLE OXYGEN BARRIER COMPRISING A BIODEGRADABLE POLYMER MATRIX AND BIOCARBON

A biodegradable composite comprising a polymeric matrix including but not limited to poly lactide (PLA), poly (butylene succinate) 20 (PBS), poly(butylene succinate adipate) (PBSA), including bio-based PBSA (BioPBSA), poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT), polycaprolactone (PCL), polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA(s)), poly(3-hydroxy)butyrate (PHB), poly(3-hydroxy-butyrate-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV), copolyester of the monomers 1.4-butanediol, adipic acid and terephthalic acid (Ecoflex™) and polypropylene carbonate (PPC), and biocarbon, a.k.a. biochar or pyrolyzed biomass as a sustainable filler. The biodegradable composite achieves high oxygen barrier with balanced water barrier. Also, a method of manufacturing the biodegradable composite and articles of manufacturing comprising the biodegradable composite. The articles of manufacturing have application in limiting gas permeation into a package and extending shelf life of a material.

A method of manufacturing a biodegradable bioplastic includes preparing a plant derived polymer base, preparing bamboo extracts from bamboo wood, and combining the bamboo extracts with the polymer base, optionally by heating and mixing the polymer base in a liquid form together with the bamboo extracts in a liquid form. The bamboo extracts may be applied as a surface treatment of the polymer base, with the polymer base in a solid form. The plant derived polymer base may include water, potassium bicarbonate, glycerol and starch, such as arrowroot. The plant derived polymer base and the bamboo extracts may be combined at ambient temperature, heated, cooled, reheated and recooled and solidified.

This invention relates to a biodegradable copolyester composition, comprising: a) from 40 to 60 mol %, based on total mole of a) and b), of aromatic dicarboxylic acid selected from benzene dicarboxylic acid or ester derivative of said acid; b) from 40 to 60 mol %, based on total mole of a) and b), of a mixture of aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, wherein b) comprising: b1) from 20 to 80 mol %, based on mole of b), of at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having 2 to 6 carbon atoms; and b2) from 20 to 80 mol %, based on mole of b), of at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having 7 to 14 carbon atoms; c) at least one mole equivalent, based on total mole of a) and b), of diol having 2 to 6 carbon atoms; and d) from 0.1 to 2.0 mole % based on total mole of a), b), c), and d), of alcohol with at least 3 hydroxyl groups. The biodegradable copolyester composition according to this invention has improved thermal property, mechanical property, and biodegradability.

Disclosed herein are aqueous latex compositions comprising polysaccharide particles and a polymer dispersion or polymer emulsion. In one embodiment the polysaccharide particles comprise poly alpha-1,3-glucan. Also disclosed are an adhesive, film, coating, or binder comprising the latex composition in a dry form, as well as articles comprising the adhesive, film, coating, or binder.
