Methods for improving nanocellulose dispersion in elastomeric compounds, and compositions containing dispersed nanocellulose in elastomer compounds

Nanocellulose dispersion compositions containing a partitioning agent and a nanocellulose, and methods of making the nanocellulose dispersion compositions, are disclosed. These compositions can promote improved dispersibility of the nanocellulose fibrils and nanocellulose crystals in polymer matrices, such as in elastomer formulations for use in tire production.

AQUEOUS COLD SEAL ADHESIVE

Described is an aqueous cold seal adhesive in the form of an aqueous polymer dispersion comprising a mixture of a first polymer and a second polymer, wherein the first polymer is an emulsion polymer prepared in the presence of a protective colloid and is composed to an extent of at least 60% by weight of principal monomers selected from the group consisting of C1 to C20 alkyl (meth)acrylates and has a glass transition temperature of less than 0 C.; and wherein the second polymer is an emulsion polymer prepared in the presence of a protective colloid and is composed to an extent of at least 60% by weight of principal monomers selected from the group consisting of vinylaromatics having up to 20 C atom, and has a glass transition temperature of at least 50 C. Also described are cold sealable coated polymer films coated with the aqueous cold seal adhesive and a method for producing a cold-sealed pack by applying the aqueous cold seal adhesive to a packaging substrate.

The present invention relates to a composition comprising a stable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles comprising structural units of a polymerizable amino acid and structural units of an acid monomer or a salt thereof. The present invention relates to an aqueous dispersion obtained by a process comprising the steps of (a) preparing an acidic copolymer (A) by radical copolymerization of monomers comprising: (a1) at least one unsaturated fatty acid, (a2) at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer containing at least one acid group or group capable of forming an acid group, (a3) at least one other ethylenically unsaturated monomer different from (a1) and (a2), (b) neutralizing totally or partially the acid groups of copolymer (A) and dissolving it in water, (c) copolymerizing in the solution obtained at step (b) a monomer mixture different from the monomer mixture of step (a) to form a copolymer (B) as well as blends based on such dispersions, especially in combination with oxidatively drying alkyds.

Tackifier compounds and methods of using the same

The present invention relates to tackifier compounds and methods of using the same. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a tackifier compound including independently substituted or unsubstituted fused rings A and B each independently chosen from (C.sub.5-C.sub.10)cycloalkyl and (C.sub.2-C.sub.10)heterocyclyl. Fused ring A is substituted with (R.sup.1).sub.1-8 and fused ring B is substituted with (OC(O)RC(O)R.sup.2).sub.1-8. At each occurrence R is independently chosen from (C.sub.2-C.sub.10)alkanylene, (C.sub.2-C.sub.10)alkenylene, (C.sub.2-C.sub.10)alkynylene, C.sub.5-C.sub.20(arylene), and (C.sub.1-C.sub.20)heteroarylene, wherein R is unsubstituted or substituted. At each occurrence R.sup.1 is independently selected from OH, OR.sup.3, and OC(O)RC(O)R.sup.2. A wet coating composition useful for coating a cellulosic fiber-based substrate is provided. The composition includes two aqueous emulsions. The first emulsion includes an oxidized paraffin/polyethylene wax and the second emulsion includes an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer wax, ethylene/acrylic amide copolymer wax, ethylene/acrylic acid/acrylic amide copolymer wax or a mixture thereof. The oxidized paraffin/polyethylene wax has a surface energy less than or equal to 25 mN/m being substantially dispersive energy. The wet coating composition when dried forms a coating having a surface energy ranging from 20 to 60 mN/m being the sum of dispersive and polar energies. A process for treating a cellulosic fiber-based substrate with the wet coating composition, a substrate coated and articles including the coated substrate are also described. The process involves a heating step to allow migration of the coating towards a core of the cellulosic fiber-based substrate.

The present invention relates to a resin fine particle dispersion optimal for manufacturing a sheet product such as paper. Specifically, an object of the present invention is to provide a resin fine particle dispersion with which a sheet product having excellent heat resistance and high mechanical strength is obtained, and which has a small environmental load due to a small amount of resin particles remaining in wastewater after papermaking. Provided are a resin fine particle dispersion including resin fine particles (A), a fiber material (B), an ionic polyacrylamide (C), and water as essential components, and a sheet product and a friction plate using this.

The invention covers a process of preparation of said dispersion, an adhesive composition comprising said dispersion, the use of said dispersion in pressure sensitive adhesives, and the resulting adhesive.

POLYMER COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING GRAFTED POLYMERIC NETWORKS AND PROCESSES FOR THEIR PREPARATION AND USE

Provided are polymer compositions made by a process comprising: (a) providing a first reactive composition containing: (i) a polymerization initiator that is capable, upon a first activation, of forming two or more free radical groups, at least one of which is further activatable by subsequent activation; (ii) one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds; and (iii) a crosslinker; (b) subjecting the first reactive composition to a first activation step such that the first reactive composition polymerizes therein to form a crosslinked substrate network containing a covalently bound activatable free radical initiator, (c) combining the crosslinked substrate network with a second reactive composition containing one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds; and (d) activating the covalently bound activatable free radical initiator of the crosslinked substrate network such that the second reactive composition polymerizes therein with the crosslinked substrate network to form a grafted polymeric network and a byproduct polymer. Also provided are precursors to the polymer compositions, processes for preparation of the polymer compositions, and methods of using the polymer compositions, for instance in medical devices.

The present invention relates to new acrylic associative thickening agents which, when polymerized in the presence of particular polyglycerols, ultimately result in an increase of the open time of the paint or of the thick coating in which they are incorporated. By so doing, painters and applicators will have more time to work the paint layers gradually or to correct imperfections such as paint droplets, traces of brushes and filling-knives.
