Antimicrobial polymer resins, fibers, and yarns with phosphorus content
The present disclosure relates to polymer resins, fibers, and yarns with permanent antimicrobial activity, and a method of producing the same. In one embodiment, the antimicrobial polymer resin comprises a polymer having less than 2500 ppm of zinc dispersed within the polymer, less than 1000 ppm of phosphorus, wherein the weight ratio of zinc to phosphorus is at least 1.3:1 or less than 0.64:1.
Carbon Fiber Precursors and Production Process
A new class of cost-effective carbon fiber precursors that comprise both hydrocarbon polymer and Pitch structural features in the same polymer structure to exhibit complementary advantages of both PAN- and Pitch-based carbon fiber precursors. The new class of carbon fiber precursors comprise a polymeric pitch copolymer, wherein the polymeric pitch copolymer includes a polymer chain and several pitch polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules grafted or chemically bonded to the polymer chain. Method and processes for the creation of the new class of carbon fiber precursors are also presented, wherein said methods may comprise a thermally-induced coupling and extrusion step.
Microporous nanofiber films
The present invention generally relates to the design and manufacture of nanofiber layers, webs, films, or membranes that may be self-supporting and can function as standalone products. More particularly, the present invention relates to a microporous nanofiber films and the use of such films in a wide variety of products and applications, including applications where physical property tuning is typically limited. Generally, the microporous films of the present invention can function as a standalone nanofiber membrane or can be bonded to other microporous films to produce a layered stacked film stack with customizable properties. Unlike conventional microporous films available in today's market, the microporous films of the present invention can be lighter, require less raw material cost to produce, and can improve operating performances in a variety of applications.

Polymer compositions and nonwoven compositions prepared therefrom
Described herein are propylene-based polymer compositions that comprise a reactor blend of a first polymer component and a second polymer component. The first polymer component has an ethylene content of from greater than 12 to less than 19 wt % ethylene, and the second polymer component has an ethylene content of from greater than 4 to less than 10 wt % ethylene. Preferably, the ethylene content of the first and second polymer components satisfy the formula:
−1.7143R.sub.1+29.771≤R.sub.2≤−1.9167R.sub.1+37.25.
The propylene-based polymer compositions are particularly useful for forming meltspun nonwoven compositions that exhibit a desirable balance of retractive force and permanent set.
Spider-silk-like polymer fiber, preparation method therefor and use thereof
The invention relates to a spider-silk-like polymer fiber in the technical field of chemical bionics, a preparation method therefor and the use thereof. The spider-silk-like polymer fiber comprises a matrix polymer and a particle additive dispersed therein, wherein the particles have an average particle size of 0.1-1000 microns, and the polymer fiber has a spider-silk-like microstructure comprising a fiber body and spaced spindle knot structural units on the fiber body, wherein the spindle knot structural units comprise the particles, and the radial height of the spindle knot structural units is greater than the diameter of the fiber body. The preparation method of the polymer fiber of the invention does not require greatly modifying the existing spinning processes, and the equipment does not need to be changed, the process is simple, and the cost is low. The obtained spider-silk-like polymer fiber can realize the directional movement of water droplets on the surface of the fiber, thereby having a water gathering function and can be used for preparing water gathering materials.
