Fluorescent dyes and methods of use thereof
Provided are methods for labeling target molecules, such as nucleic acids, with fluorescent dye compounds having the formula ##STR00001##
One method embodiment includes contacting reactive group Z of the fluorescent dye compound with the target molecule such that reactive group Z reacts with the target molecule to form a covalent bond between the group and the target molecule. Another method embodiment includes contacting a fluorescent dye compound that further includes a first member of a binding pair, with a target molecule that includes a second member of the binding pair. Also provided are target molecules labeled with the fluorescent dye compounds.

Zwitterionic compounds for non-linear optics, sensors, and spectroscopy
Disclosed are new zwitterionic compounds having a bridge moiety, an electron accepter moiety, and an electron donor moiety. The bridge moiety is covalently bonded to both the electron accepter moiety and to the electron donor moiety. The bridge moiety includes one selected from xanthene and thioxanthene, and the accepter moiety includes a pyridinium moiety, and the donor moiety includes a malononitrile moiety.
LIGHT HARVESTING MULTICHROMOPHORE COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS OF USING THE SAME
Light harvesting luminescent multichromophores that are configured upon excitation to transfer energy to, and amplify the emission from, an acceptor signaling chromophore in energy-receiving proximity therewith are provided. Also provided are compositions for labelling a target. The labelling composition may include a donor light harvesting multichromophore and an acceptor signaling chromophore in energy-receiving proximity to the donor light harvesting multichromophore. Also provided is an aqueous composition for labelling a target, including: a donor light harvesting multichromophore; an acceptor signaling chromophore in energy-receiving proximity therewith; and a sensor biomolecule. Methods for using the subject compositions are also provided.
