Coating composition comprising submicron calcium carbonate-comprising particles, process to prepare same and use of submicron calcium carbonate-comprising particles in coating compositions

A coating composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of submicron natural ground calcium carbonate particles contained in a liquid binder, wherein the resultant coating may constitute either a clear coat or a glossing and opacifying coating, depending upon the presence of certain additives such as a mineral pigment (e.g., TiO.sub.2). The composition is characterised in that comprises, in the case of a clear coating, at least one ground natural calcium carbonate having a median diameter of between 0.05 and 0.15 m, while in the case of a glossing and opacifying coating, at least one ground natural calcium carbonate having a median diameter of between 0.05 and 0.3 m and at least one pigment having a refractive index of greater than or equal to 2.5.

The invention provides dispersed inorganic mixed metal oxide pigment compositions in a non-aqueous media utilizing a dispersant having polyisobutylene succinic anhydride structure to disperse a mixed metal oxide pigment in the media. The metal oxide pigment is of the type used to colour ceramic or glass articles. A milling process using beads is also described to reduce the mixed metal oxide particle size to the desired range. A method of using the mixed metal oxide dispersion to digitally print an image on a ceramic or glass article using the dispersion jetted through a nozzle and subsequently firing the coloured article is also described.

LUSTER PIGMENT AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A method for producing a luster pigment containing a plurality of scaly pigment particles that is capable of suppressing reactions between an aluminum layer as a core layer of each pigment particle and water, even when the luster pigment is exposed to atmosphere containing oxygen or water. The method includes forming a first layer on a surface of a film substrate through deposition of titanium as material, forming a second layer on a surface of the first layer through deposition of aluminum as material, and forming a third layer on a surface of the second layer through deposition of titanium as material, so as to form a stack including the first layer, second layer, and third layer stacked in sequence on the surface of the film substrate, and removing the stack from the film substrate and crushing the removed stack, so as to produce the plurality of scaly pigment particles.

BLACK MIXED OXIDE MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME

Provided are a black mixed oxide that contains chromium per se of any valency as a main component, and fails to contain cobalt as the main component material, and has a high safety, an excellent color tone and economical efficiency, and a method for producing the same, and various products using the black mixed oxide material. The mixed oxides comprise oxides containing La, Mn and Cu as main components but containing neither Cr nor Co as a main component, wherein the contents of La, Mn and Cu in the mixed oxides satisfy the following ratios, as oxide equivalent amount with respect to 100% by weight of the oxide equivalent amount: the La content as La.sub.2O.sub.3 being 35-70 wt %; the Mn content as MnO.sub.2 being 25-60 wt %; and the Cu content as CuO being 0.5-10 wt %.

Disclosed are methods for forming boron nitride-containing aggregates that exhibit improved wear by attrition, and resulting filled polymers that exhibit significantly improved thermal conductivity. The boron nitride-containing aggregates are prepared according to a method that includes wet granulating boron nitride powder with a granulation solution to form wet boron nitride-containing granules; and drying the wet boron nitride-containing granules to cause evaporation of solvent in the granulation solution, thereby forming boron nitride-containing granules. Sintering achieves the desired boron nitride-containing aggregates.

ALUMINUM NITRIDE GRANULAR POWDER AND RESIN COMPOSITION

An aluminum nitride granular powder is constituted by aluminum nitride sintered granules, the aluminum nitride granular powder having a maximum peak diameter of 30 m to 200 m in a volume-based particle diameter distribution obtained from maximum lengths of the aluminum nitride sintered granules measured with use of a dry particle image analyzer, with regard to the aluminum nitride sintered granules each of which has a particle diameter of not less than 30% of the maximum peak diameter, a ratio of the number of particles having an HS roundness value of 0.5 to 0.8 as measured with use of the dry particle image analyzer being not less than 15% relative to the aluminum nitride sintered granules each having the particle diameter.
