CARBON-COATED PARTICLES

Core particles produced in situ or introduced as preformed core particles are coated with a layer of carbon. Non-carbon as well as some carbon-based core materials can be utilized. The resulting carbon coated particles can find applications in rubber products, for instance as reinforcement for tire components.

Carbon black for waterborne coatings

An aqueous carbon black millbase, an aqueous carbon black liquid coating, and a method of making the millbase and liquid coating are provided. The carbon blacks are modified carbon blacks that are engineered to be able to be stirred into an aqueous vehicle without high energy milling of the carbon black. The modified carbon blacks include low organic treatment levels and the millbase and liquid coating do not require large quantities of dispersant. The resulting coatings exhibit excellent viscosity, color, hiding power and stability.

COATED PARTICLE, DISPERSION SOLUTION AND MOLDED BODY CONTAINING SAME, AND SINTERED BODY FORMED USING SAME

The present invention provides means capable of satisfactorily exhibit the properties inherent in the inorganic particle and the constituent material of the coating layer, such as obtaining high dispersibility and high mechanical properties in the coated particle that contains the inorganic particle having at least the inorganic substance capable of forming an inorganic oxide on a surface, and the coating layer with which the inorganic particle is coated. The present invention relates to a coated particle that contains an inorganic particle having at least an inorganic substance capable of forming an inorganic oxide on a surface, and a coating layer with which the inorganic particle is coated, in which the amount of the inorganic oxide per unit surface area of the inorganic particle does not exceed 0.150 mg/m.sup.2.

COLORED METALLIC PIGMENT

A colored metallic pigment according to the present invention is a colored metallic pigment including at least a metallic pigment, an amorphous silicon oxide film layer formed on a surface of the metallic pigment, a metallic-particle-supporting layer formed on a surface of the amorphous silicon oxide film layer, and metallic particles formed on a surface of the metallic-particle-supporting layer, characterized in that the metallic-particle-supporting layer is formed of one or both of a metal layer and a metal oxide layer composed of a metal oxide other than silicon oxide, the metallic particles are formed to directly cover a part of the surface of the metallic-particle-supporting layer, and the amorphous silicon oxide film layer has a thickness of more than 500 nm.

MXENES-METAL AND CERAMIC ASSEMBLIES AND COMPOSITES

A composite comprising a MXene and a post-transition metal wherein the post-transition metal is at least partially encapsulated by from 1 to 4 layers of the MXene. Methods of making such a composite are also disclosed.

Fluoroalkylsilanated mesoporous metal oxide particles and methods of preparation thereof

Treated, mesoporous aggregates comprising a plurality of coated particles that comprise an inorganic oxide core having a surface area of about 50 to about 500 square meters per gram and a shell or coating consisting of an array of fluoroalkyl molecular chains covalently bonded to the core at a density of at least one chain per square nanometer. The aggregates are formed by the chemical attachment of fluoroalkyl-alkylsilanes after exposure to an alkylamine and followed by an extraction to remove any unbound organic material. The dense packing of molecular chains in the fluoroalkyl shell combined with a mesoporous structure imparts a very low surface energy, a very high specific surface area, and surface texture over a wide range of length scales. Such features are highly desirable for the creation of, for example, superhydrophobic and superoleophobic surfaces, separation media, and release films.

Provided is a dendritic silver-coated copper powder which is capable of effectively ensuring a contact, while having excellent electrical conductivity by having the surface coated with silver. A silver-coated copper powder according to the present invention is obtained by coating the surface of a copper powder 1, which is an assembly of copper particles 2 and has a dendritic form having a plurality of branches, with silver. Each copper particle 2, the surface of which is coated with silver, is an ellipsoid that has a breadth within the range of from 0.2 μm to 0.5 μm and a length within the range of from 0.5 μm to 2.0 μm. The average particle diameter (D50) of the copper powder 1, which is obtained by coating the surface of the assembly of the ellipsoidal copper particles 2 with silver, is from 5.0 μm to 20 μm.

RETROREFLECTIVE ELEMENTS INCLUDING PARTICLES

The present disclosure generally relates to retroreflective elements including a core and a plurality of glass or glass-ceramic beads adjacent to the core. The retroreflective elements further include a plurality of particles having a diameter that is less than the diameter of the glass or glass ceramic beads in the retroreflective elements. The present disclosure also generally relates to articles (including, for example, retroreflective roadway liquid pavement markings) including these retroreflective elements and methods of making and using these retroreflective elements.
