HYDROPHOBICALLY MODIFIED PIGMENT COMPOSITION
The present invention is a composition comprising an aqueous dispersion of metal oxide pigment particles coated with an organosilane polymer comprising structural units of an alkyltrihydroxysilane or a salt thereof, a dialkyldihydroxysilane or a salt thereof, and an ancillary alkylsilane triol. The composition of the present invention provides hydrophobicity to pigment particles, thereby imparting water resistance, and allows for high loadings of pigment in water without increased viscosity. The dispersion is further useful for providing stain and corrosion resistance in coatings arising from paints.
Method of forming nanoparticles having superhydrophobicity
A method of forming nanoparticles having superhydrophobicity includes preparing a PDMS film including a structure having a predetermined shape on a surface thereof, and generating the nanoparticles having superhydrophobicity on the surface of the PDMS film by combusting the surface of the PDMS film using a diffusion flame. Transparent nanoparticles having superhydrophobicity and oleophobicity may be generated simply and easily on the surface of the PDMS film.

A dispersion liquid contains a metal oxide particle surface-modified with a silane compound and a silicone compound, when a transmission spectrum of the metal oxide particles that are obtained by vacuum-drying the dispersion liquid is measured in a wavenumber range of 800 cm.sup.−1 or more and 3800 cm.sup.−1 or less with FT-IR, IA/IB≤3.5 is satisfied (IA is a spectrum value at 3,500 cm.sup.−1 and IB is a spectrum value at 1,100 cm.sup.−1), and, when the dispersion liquid and methyl phenyl silicone are mixed such that a mass ratio of a total mass of the metal oxide particles and the surface-modifying material to a mass of methyl phenyl silicone becomes 30:70 and the hydrophobic solvent is removed, a viscosity is 9 Pa.Math.s or less.
METHOD FOR PREPARING MODIFIED FILLER, COMPOSITIONS AND ARTICLES CONTAINING SAME
Provided is a method for preparing a modified filler. The method includes in sequence providing an acidified aqueous slurry of an untreated inorganic filler which has not been previously dried; an emulsifier material; and a hydrophobating agent having the following structural formula (I): (I) R.sub.a-M-X.sub.(4-a) wherein: R is C.sub.6 to C.sub.22 alkyl, M is silicon, titanium or zirconium, X is OR′ or N halogen, R′ is C.sub.1 to C.sub.4 alkyl, and a is 1; washing and/or filtering the acidified aqueous slurry to obtain a modified filler, and, optionally, drying the modified filler. Polymeric compositions and articles also are provided.

A filler for resinous composition is contained and used in resinous composition, and includes: a crystalline siliceous particulate material with a crystal structure made of at least one member selected from the group consisting of type FAU, type FER, type LTA and type MFI, and/or type MWW; and a surface treatment agent including an organic silica compound reacted with or adhered to a surface of the crystalline siliceous particulate material; the filler including the surface treatment agent in an amount falling in a range allowing the filler to exhibit a negative thermal expansion coefficient.
