An article including a magnetic-containing layer having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first; a first reflector layer external to the first surface of the magnetic-containing layer; a second reflector layer external to the second surface of the magnetic-containing layer; a first selective light modulator layer external to the first reflector layer; a second selective light modulator layer external to the second reflector layer; a first absorber layer external to the first selective light modulator layer; and a second absorber layer external to the second selective light modulator layer; wherein at least one of the first and second selective light modulator layers comprises at least one of a curing agent, and at least one coating aid is disclosed. Methods of making the disclosed article are also disclosed.
PIGMENTS HAVING A VAPOR DEPOSITED COLORANT
A particle including a core particle; and a vapor deposited colorant including an organic colored material that encapsulates the core particle. The particle can be a special effect pigment or a thin film interference pigment. Methods of making the particle are also disclosed.
SOLVENT-LESS METHOD TO MANUFACTURE THIN FILM DEVICES
A method of forming a thin film device includes coating a web with a multi-layer thin film; and applying a mechanical force to release the multi-layer thin film from the web. Additional methods of forming a thin film device are disclosed.
Modification of pigments using atomic layer deposition (ALD) in varying electrical resistivity
A method of producing a modification of pigments using atomic layer deposition (ALD) in varying electrical resistivity. More specifically, ALD may be used to encapsulate pigment particles with controlled thicknesses of a conductive layer, such as indium tin oxide (ITO). ALD may allow films to be theoretically grown one atom at a time, providing angstrom-level thickness control.
COATING FILM AND ARTICLE
Provided are a coating film that has high radio wave permeability and low haze in addition to excellent infrared light reflectivity and visible light permeability, and an article comprising such a coating film. The coating film is a coating film produced using a coating composition, wherein the coating composition comprises flat pigment particles and a resin component, the flat pigment particles comprise a laminate of dielectric layers and a metallic thin film layer, the dielectric layer and the metallic thin film layer are stacked alternately in the laminate, and the dielectric layers are outermost layers of the laminate, an aspect ratio of the flat pigment particles is 10 to 400, a pigment surface density of the flat pigment particles in the coating film is 50% to 300%, and a film thickness of the coating film is 1 m or more. The article comprises the coating film.
MAGNETIC ARTICLES
Anisotropic magnetic flakes
The invention relates to anisotropic, reflective, magnetic flakes. In a liquid carrier and under influence of an external magnetic field, the flakes attract to one another side-by-side and form ribbons which provide higher reflectivity to a coating and may be used as a security feature for authentication of an object.
Sunscreen multilayer particle
The present invention relates to a multilayer UV filter particle, comprising: an odd number of alternating layers of high and low refractive index materials, wherein each layer has a refractive index that differs from that of adjacent layers by at least 0.2, the total number of layers is at least 9, and the particle does not contain a substrate. The particle according to the present invention can have a good UV filtering effect.
Embossed effect pigment and method of manufacture of embossed effect pigment
An embossed effect pigment includes a metallic substrate in platelet form with embossed structure having a periodic pattern with diffractive elements, said substrate having been produced by PVD methods, wherein the substrate has an elemental metal content of 80% to 100% by weight, based on the substrate, and wherein the effect pigment has been treated with a leafing additive for surface modification. A method of manufacture of an embossed effect pigment includes suspending a metallic substrate in in at least one solvent, adding a leafing additive to the suspension including the metallic substrate in the at least one solvent and stirring the suspension including the leafing additive, and separating the embossed effect pigment from the at least one solvent.
