ASPHALT PAVEMENT PROCESSING SYSTEM AND METHOD USING HYDROPHOBIC MICROWAVE ABSORBING MATERIAL
Asphalt paving system and method involves the use of a primer, comprising hydrophobic microwave absorbing material mixed in a hydrophobic liquid, between an asphalt layer and a base layer below. The primer is configured to be deposited on the base layer at room temperature without preheating. Heating the hydrophobic microwave absorbing material, sandwiched between the asphalt and base layers, by microwave energy, allows for both effective de-icing of the asphalt pavement and for efficient repairs of the pavement, the latter by striping of the asphalt layer from the base layer.
Thermally resistant radiation curable coatings for optical fiber
Described herein are coated optical fibers including an optical fiber portion, wherein the optical fiber portion includes a glass core and cladding section that is configured to possesses certain mode-field diameters and effective areas, and a coating portion including a primary and secondary coating, wherein the primary coating is the cured product of a composition that possesses specified liquid glass transition temperatures, such as below −82° C., and/or a viscosity ratios, such as between 25° C. and 85° C., of less than 13.9. Also described are radiation curable coating compositions possessing reduced thermal sensitivity, methods of coating such radiation curable coating compositions to form coated optical fibers, and optical fiber cables comprising the coated optical fibers and/or radiation curable coating compositions elsewhere described.
COATED SUBSTRATES WITH ATTACHED DOPANTS COBLASTED WITH PARTICLES AND DOPANT
The present invention is directed to a coated substrate comprising: (a) a surface that has been impacted with an abrasive particle and a dopant such that at least some portion of the surface becomes attached with the dopant; and (b) a film-forming layer on at least a portion of the impacted surface, wherein the film-forming layer has been deposited from a film-forming composition; wherein the surface is impacted substantially simultaneously with the abrasive particle and the dopant; and wherein when the dopant comprises iron phosphate, zinc phosphate, manganese phosphate, cerium oxide, the film-forming composition is not a two-component epoxy clear coat.
METHOD OF REFURBISHING AN INTERMEDIATE TRANSFER MEMBER
Described herein is a method of refurbishing an intermediate transfer member (ITM) blanket comprising: cleaning a silicone release layer of the ITM blanket with a cleaning composition; applying a primer composition onto the silicone release layer of the ITM blanket to form a primer layer; applying a silicone release formulation to the primer layer; curing the silicone release formulation to form a silicone release layer; wherein at least one of the cleaning composition and the primer composition comprises a polysiloxane surfactant.
Polyolefin Polyols as Surface Modifying Agents
A functionalized ethylene-based polymer dissolved in an appropriate solvent and applied to a nonpolar surface can change the surface polarity/characteristics of the nonpolar surface. This change to the surface polarity/characteristics of the nonpolar surface allows adhesion of materials, such as paint, to surfaces such as polypropylene, polyethylene and polyolefin elastomers.
PRIMER WASHCOATS FOR METAL SUBSTRATES
Metal substrates suitable for use as catalyst supports for catalytic converters are disclosed, as well as methods of making such substrates. A coating of boehmite particles in aqueous suspension is applied to the metal substrate and calcined. Any further desired washcoats can then be applied to the resulting calcined boehmite-coated metal substrate. One exemplary metal for use as a substrate is stainless steel.
WATER DILUTABLE POLYVINYL FLUORIDE PAINT AND COATING AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
A method of manufacturing a coating is provided, which includes applying a primer paint on a substrate, wherein the primer paint includes 100 parts by weight of a first PVF, 30-70 parts by weight of an assistance resin, 5-30 parts by weight of a curing agent, 100-120 parts by weight of a first latent solvent, 3-methoxy-3-methyl-1-butanol, and water. The first latent solvent, 3-methoxy-3-methyl-1-butanol, and water have a weight ratio of 60:10-20:40-60. The method also applies a finish paint on the primer paint, wherein the finish paint includes 100 parts by weight of a second PVF, 100-120 parts by weight of a second latent solvent, 3-methoxy-3-methyl-1-butanol, and water, wherein the second latent solvent, 3-methoxy-3-methyl-1-butanol, and water have a weight ratio of 50:10-20:30-60. The primer paint and the finish paint are baked and dried to form a coating.
Self-stratifying coatings
A self-stratifying anticorrosive coating is described herein, including a zinc-rich epoxy, a curing agent chosen from the group consisting of amines, thiols, phenols, and carboxylic anhydrides, a binding agent chosen from the group consisting of aminoalkyl dialkoxysilane, dimethoxysilane, and aminoalkyl trialkoxysilane, a graphitic material, a solvent, a water scavenger, and a moisture-cured siloxane.
POLYFUNCTIONAL POLYMERS BASED ON PHOSPHONATE UNITS AND AMINE UNITS
The invention relates to polyfunctional polymers suitable in particular for the treatment of metal surfaces (metal finishing) and comprising: monomer units u1 bearing phosphonic acid functions; monomer units u2 bearing amine functions; and optionally monomer units u3 bearing alcohol units —OH.
AQUEOUS COPOLYMER COATING COMPOSITIONS FOR INDUSTRIAL AND CONSTRUCTION APPLICATIONS
Copolymer dispersions containing polyamide segments in aqueous media form binders for coatings for various industrial and construction materials. The copolymers have a high percentage of amide linkages. The copolymers are linked into higher molecular weight species by reactions with polyisocyanates (which forms urea linkages if the other reactant is an amine or a urethane linkage if the other reactant is a hydroxyl group).
