Aqueous pigment dispersions

The present disclosure is drawn to aqueous pigment dispersions. In one example, an aqueous pigment dispersion can include from 40 wt % to 90 wt % water, from 2 wt % to 30 wt % organic co-solvent, from 7.5 wt % to 30 wt % copper phthalocyanine pigment, from 0.5 wt % to 5 wt % styrene-acrylic dispersant, and from 0.5 wt % to 5 wt % hydrophilic polyurethane dispersant having a weight average molecular weight from 10,000 Mw to 30,000 Mw. The styrene-acrylic dispersant and the hydrophilic polyurethane dispersant can be present at a weight ratio from 1:10 to 2:1.

The aqueous pigment preparations are suitable for the coloring of inks, paints, and renders, especially in metering systems at the point of sale or in in-plant tinting systems.

The issue of the present invention is to provide a disazo pigment in which the polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) content in addition to the primary aromatic amine (PAA) content is reduced. The present invention provides a pigment composition containing a disazo pigment, an alkylamine that has an alkyl group having a carbon number of 8 or more, and a poly(oxyethylene) alkyl ester that has an alkyl group having a carbon number of 8 or more. Preferably, the disazo pigment includes at least one disazo pigment selected from a group consisting of C.I. Pigment Yellow 83, C.I. Pigment Yellow 13, and C.I. Pigment Yellow 14.

Method for producing quinacridone solid solution pigment, pigment dispersion, and inkjet ink

There is provided a technique for producing a quinacridone solid solution pigment, the technique making it possible to obtain a quinacridone solid solution pigment which produces a colored product having high chroma and a bluish hue, more preferably which has controlled particle diameters. Specifically, a method for producing a quinacridone solid solution pigment, the method including a crude quinacridone solid solution production step of subjecting a diarylaminoterepththalic acid and a dialkylarylaminoterephthalic acid to a co-cyclization reaction in polyphosphoric acid, thereby obtaining a water-containing crude quinacridone solid solution containing a solid solution of an unsubstituted quinacridone and a 2,9-dialkylquinacridone, the solid solution containing water, a drying step of drying the water-containing crude quinacridone solid solution to reduce the water content to less than 1% and obtain a powdery, crude quinacridone solid solution, and a pigmentation step of heating the powdery, crude quinacridone solid solution in a liquid medium that cannot dissolve the crude quinacridone solid solution.

The present invention provides an aqueous pigment dispersion liquid being such that a pigment is finely dispersed, and the viscosity, and the particle diameters of the pigment are unlikely to fluctuate, being excellent in storage stability, and enabling preparation of an emulsion-polymerized toner having properly controlled particle diameters while improving the pigment utilization rate. The aqueous pigment dispersion liquid is an aqueous pigment dispersion liquid for an emulsion-polymerized toner containing a pigment, a dispersant, and an aqueous medium. The dispersant is a polymer containing a constitutional unit (A) derived from a monomer (A) such that a group containing a (meth)acryloyloxy group or the like is bonded to one end of a particular polyethylene glycol chain or the like, and a constitutional unit (B) derived from a monomer (B) having a carboxy group or the like, the polymer has a number average molecular weight in terms of polystyrene of 4,000 to 15,000, as measured by gel permeation chromatography, the polymer is contained in a state of being not ionized substantially, and the aqueous pigment dispersion liquid has a pH of 3.0 to 8.4.

A challenge of the present invention is to provide a water-based coating composition capable of providing a design superior in depth feeling in the formation of a multilayer coating film having a so-called color clear coating film. The present invention relates to a water-based coating composition comprising a coating film-forming resin (i) and a coloring pigment dispersion (ii), wherein the coating film-forming resin (i) comprises: an acrylic resin emulsion (A) having an average particle diameter of 100 nm or less in an amount of 10 to 60% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i), a water-soluble acrylic resin (B) in an amount of 5 to 40% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i), and a melamine resin (C) in an amount of 20 to 40% by mass in terms of the resin solid content of the coating film-forming resin (i); and the coloring pigment dispersion (ii) comprises a coloring pigment (D) having a 90%-volume particle diameter (D90) of 100 nm or less.

A method for increasing a detection distance of a surface of an object illuminated by near-IR electromagnetic radiation, including: (a) directing near-IR electromagnetic radiation from a near-IR electromagnetic radiation source towards an object at least partially coated with a near-IR reflective coating that increases a near-IR electromagnetic radiation detection distance by at least 15% as measured at a wavelength in a near-IR range as compared to the same object coated with a color matched coating which absorbs more of the same near-IR radiation, where the color matched coating has a ΔE color matched value of 1.5 or less when compared to the near-IR reflective coating; and (b) detecting reflected near-IR electromagnetic radiation reflected from the near-IR reflective coating. A system for detecting proximity of vehicles is also disclosed.
