MULTI-STAGE POLYMERIC LATEXES, COATING COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING SUCH LATEXES, AND ARTICLES COATED THEREWITH
An aqueous coating composition useful in coating a variety of substrates, including interior or exterior portions of food or beverage cans. The coating composition includes a multi-stage polymeric latex having two or more emulsion polymerized stages in an aqueous carrier liquid, wherein the latex has one or both of: (i) a lower glass transition temperature (Tg) emulsion polymerized stage having a calculated Tg that is at least 20° C. lower than a calculated Tg of a higher Tg emulsion polymerized stage, or (ii) a gradient Tg with at least a 20° C. differential in the calculated Tg of monomers fed at the start of polymerization compared to monomers fed at the end of polymerization.
When spray-applied on the interior of a food or beverage can, the composition exhibits a global extraction result of less than 50 ppm and a metal exposure value of less than 3 mA.
Protective graft coating for application onto polyurethane for chemical resistance, stain resistance, abrasion resistance and U.V. resistance
This invention relates to a coating comprising prepolymer and monomers for application onto polyurethane for chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, water proof etc. Usually polyurethane is porous and does not have sufficient stain, abrasion and chemical resistance. The said coatings developed using technology of chemical grafting that involves the use of prepolymers, monomers, catalyst, graft initiator, wetting agents, fillers and other ingredients of the composition. The coating thus obtained when applied on the polyurethane allows obtaining graft polymerization, thereby forming a polymeric film chemically attached to the substrate. The polyurethane substrate is reacted with craft initiator which creates the reaction sites on the substrate via free radical mechanism. This in turn renders the substrate receptive to attachment of monomers/prepolymers forming polymeric film that is chemically bonded to the substrate which has then the desired property in terms of stain resistance, abrasion wear, crock, water, chemical resistance and other properties.

ONE-STEP PROCESS FOR MAKING A POLYMER COMPOSITE COATING WITH HIGH BARRIER
This invention relates to a a one-step process for making a polymer composite suspension for coating plastic films characterized in that a first polymer is synthesized in-situ optionally in the presence of other polymers and in the presence of clay. Preferably the polymer composite suspension comprises a) 1.0 to 11.0 wt % of clay or silane modified clay, b) 0.1 to 10.0 wt % of poly (acrylic acid), which is a copolymer of acrylic acid (AA) with at least one other monomer selected from 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (ERA), β-carboxyethyl acrylate (β-CEA), methacrylamidoethyl ethylene urea (WAM II) and ethoxylated behenyl methacrylate (β-EHA), c) 1.0 to 15.0 wt % of other polymers, preferably poly (vinyl alcohol) and d) 70 to 97 wt % of water or mixture of water with 2-propanol. The coating films made from the suspensions show good barrier capabilities against water vapor and oxygen can be used to make barrier layers on or within plastic films for packaging applications. The invention also relates to methods for making silane modified clay usable in the process for making the suspensions.
ONE-STEP PROCESS FOR MAKING A POLYMER COMPOSITE COATING WITH HIGH BARRIER
This invention relates to a a one-step process for making a polymer composite suspension for coating plastic films characterized in that a first polymer is synthesized in-situ optionally in the presence of other polymers and in the presence of clay. Preferably the polymer composite suspension comprises a) 1.0 to 11.0 wt % of clay or silane modified clay, b) 0.1 to 10.0 wt % of poly (acrylic acid), which is a copolymer of acrylic acid (AA) with at least one other monomer selected from 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (ERA), β-carboxyethyl acrylate (β-CEA), methacrylamidoethyl ethylene urea (WAM II) and ethoxylated behenyl methacrylate (β-EHA), c) 1.0 to 15.0 wt % of other polymers, preferably poly (vinyl alcohol) and d) 70 to 97 wt % of water or mixture of water with 2-propanol. The coating films made from the suspensions show good barrier capabilities against water vapor and oxygen can be used to make barrier layers on or within plastic films for packaging applications. The invention also relates to methods for making silane modified clay usable in the process for making the suspensions.
Method for producing image display apparatus

A method for producing an image display apparatus includes coating a curable resin composition onto a base and/or protective part, arranging the base and the protective part to face each other, and forming a cured resin layer between the base and the protective part, wherein the curable resin composition has a curing shrinkage ratio of 5% or less and includes polyurethane acrylate and isobornyl acrylate, and the cured resin layer has a storage modulus of 1×10.sup.7 Pa or less at 25° C. and a light transmittance in a visible region of 90% or more, and wherein the curable resin composition coated onto the base or the protective part has a pattern with a prescribed shape.

SOUND DEADENER COMPOSITION
This invention relates to a sound deadener composition, comprising at least two carboxyl functional polymers with different glass transition temperatures (Tg); at least one organic compound with at least two aziridinyl groups per molecule; and water. The reaction between at least two carboxyl functional polymers with different glass transition temperatures (Tg) and at least one organic compound with at least two aziridinyl groups per molecule forms an IPN structure reaction product so that the cured product of the sound deadener composition according to the present invention exhibits widened temperature range for effective damping.
