SUPERABSORBENT POLYMER SEED COATINGS AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
Superabsorbent polymer products for use in agricultural applications, and methods of making the same, are provided. The superabsorbent polymer is used in a seed coating along with an active ingredient, and optionally a singulating substance, to improve seed germination and/or blooming; improve germination under dry conditions; decrease irrigation requirements; increase propagation, crop growth, and crop production; and improve the efficacy of the active ingredient.

Polysaccharide alkali swellable rheology modifiers include an emulsion polymer including at least one polysaccharide portion and at least one synthetic portion wherein the at least one synthetic portion is obtained from at least one anionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer, at least one nonionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer or a combination thereof, wherein at least one of the nonionic ethylenically unsaturated monomers is a hydrophobic ethylenically unsaturated monomer, as well as methods of making polysaccharide alkali swellable rheology modifiers.

Polysaccharide alkali swellable rheology modifiers include an emulsion polymer including at least one polysaccharide portion and at least one synthetic portion wherein the at least one synthetic portion is obtained from at least one anionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer, at least one nonionic ethylenically unsaturated monomer or a combination thereof; wherein at least one of the nonionic ethylenically unsaturated monomers is a hydrophobic ethylenically unsaturated monomer, as well as methods of making polysaccharide alkali swellable rheology modifiers.

PAINT COMPOSITION
A paint composition includes water and/or an organic solvent; at least one of a binder or a pigment; and an additive that includes a first polymer and/or a second polymer. The first polymer includes the reaction product of: at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a second reactant chosen from monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, polysaccharides and combinations thereof. The second polymer has the structure (I):
##STR00001## wherein R.sub.1 is a residue from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, R.sub.1 can be present or absent, and X is H, a cation, or an amine. The sum of the weight percent actives of the first polymer and/or the second polymer is from about 0.1 to about 20 weight percent actives based on a total weight of the paint composition.
PAINT COMPOSITION
A paint composition includes water and/or an organic solvent; at least one of a binder or a pigment; and an additive that includes a first polymer and/or a second polymer. The first polymer includes the reaction product of: at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a second reactant chosen from monosaccharides, disaccharides, oligosaccharides, polysaccharides and combinations thereof. The second polymer has the structure (I):

The sum of the weight percent actives of the first polymer and/or the second polymer is from about 0.1 to about 20 weight percent actives based on a total weight of the paint composition.
