Steel Protective Coating Compositions, Methods of Their Manufacture, and Methods of Their Use
Steel sheet coating compositions in which polymeric resin or ceramic properties are produced by admixing an aluminum coordinate complex and an aluminum resin, a polysilazane as a source of silicon, an organic solvent, an organic synthesis catalyst, and optionally a non-metallic, non-ionic, low-nucleophilic base. The admixed coating is applied to sheet steel prior to hot-stamping in order to inhibit surface formation of iron oxides and to improve steel sheet surface characteristics.

I. an inorganic-organic hybrid material obtained from A1. one or more partially hydrolysed alkoxysilanes of the formula (Ia), (R.sup.1O).sub.nSiR.sup.2.sub.3-nR.sup.3 (Ia) A2. optionally one or more partially hydrolysed alkoxysilanes of the formula (Ib), (R.sup.4O).sub.nSiR.sup.5.sub.4-n (Ib) B1. one or more metal alkoxides of the formula (IIa), Ti(OR.sup.6).sub.4 (IIa) B2. optionally one or more metal alkoxides of the formula (IIb), M.sup.+(4-m)(OR.sup.7).sub.4-m (IIb) wherein the symbols and indices have the definitions specified in the description and wherein the molar ratio of Si in components A1 and A2 to Ti in component B1 is 1-20:1; C. one or more oligomeric or polymeric polyols; D. one or more blocked, optionally modified polyisocyanates; and E. optionally one or more monomers, oligomers and/or polymers which have one or more free epoxy groups; II. optionally one or more colorants and III. optionally one or more adjuvants, is suitable especially for the decorative and protective coating of metal, glass and plastics substrates.

A cyclic silazane compound having an alkoxysilyl group, represented by the following general formula (1):

wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each independently represent an unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 represents a divalent hydrocarbon group having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, which may contain a sulfur atom, an ester bond or a urea bond, R.sup.4 represents a hydrogen atom or an unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, m is 0 or 1, and n is 0, 1 or 2.

A method for making a ceramic body comprised of a ceramic material having an inhibitory effect on bacterial growth is provided. A dental prosthesis may be made of a ceramic material that comprises a molybdenum-containing component on a portion of the prosthesis that contacts the gingival surface of a patient. In one method, a porous zirconia ceramic structure is shaped in the form of a dental prosthesis, and then infiltrated with a molybdenum-containing composition, before sintering to densify the ceramic structure.
