Method of covering a plastic surface with a permanent coating
The invention particularly relates to a method of applying a permanent coating to a plastic surface of a first part, comprising the following steps: applying to said plastic surface a layer of a polyamide-based hot-melt material, maintaining this layer of hot-melt material on said plastic surface for a period of time ranging from a few minutes to several hours, removing this layer of hot-melt material from this plastic surface; and applying a permanent coating to said surface, said permanent coating being based on polyurethane, an epoxy resin or polyesters, a polycarbonate and/or an acrylic resin; as well as the use of such a method in the automotive industry.

This disclosure is directed to methods directly adhering epoxy-based, and other thermosetting surfacing films to solid thermoplastic surfaces and the structures derived or derivable from these methods. In some embodiments, the disclosure is also directed to composite structures comprising a thermoplastic substrate directly bonded to a thermoset(ting) surfacing film; wherein the direct bonding defines an interface between a thermoplastic surface of the thermoplastic substrate and a first surface of the thermoset(ting) surfacing film.
Surface treatment to enhance bonding of composite materials
A method for surface preparation of composite substrates prior to adhesive bonding. A curable surface treatment layer containing blocked isocyanate compounds is applied onto a curable composite substrate, followed by co-curing. The surface treatment layer may be a resin layer without fibers or a removal peel ply composed of resin-impregnated fabric. After surface preparation, the composite substrate is provided with a chemically-active, bondable surface that can be adhesively bonded to another composite substrate to form a covalently-bonded structure.

A method of modifying a 3D-printed polymer structure is provided. The method can include providing an initial 3D-printed polymer structure having at least one exposed surface; treating the exposed surface of the initial 3D-printed polymer structure with plasma to obtain a treated 3D-printed polymer structure having a treated surface; administering an adhesive to the treated surface of the treated 3D-printed polymer structure; and contacting a complementary 3D-printed polymer structure with the treated surface of the treated 3D-printed polymer structure to obtain a modified 3D-printed polymer structure.
