Adhesive strain sensing pods with improved protection
An adhesive strain sensing pod includes at least one strain sensor, electronics for electrically sensing at least one strain signal from the at least one strain sensor, and a sensor adhesive for adhering the strain sensor to a surface of a structural element. The pod may have a protective case for protecting the strain sensor and the electronics and for transferring at least part of a force, pressing the pod against the surface, to press the strain sensor against the surface. The sensor adhesive may be a liquid adhesive contained in a fragile pouch that ruptures when the pod is forced against the surface, or may be a thermally activated adhesive film that is activated to bond the strain sensor to the surface. A protective film may protect the sensor adhesive prior to installation of the pod and is removed prior to installation of the pod on the surface.

The present disclosure is directed to a formulations of cements and methods for bonding dissimilar materials. The formulations and methods can bond a Non-polyvinyl chloride (PVC) containing first polyolefin that is amorphous or has low crystallinity to a second material that is a rigid material or a hard PVC. The methods and formulations can work by co-dissolution at an interface, or activation of a one of the materials prior to bonding.

A hot melt adhesive composition contains a 1-butene homopolymer, an ethylene-based polymer having a melting point of lower than 80° C., an α-olefin copolymer having a melting point 80° C. or higher, a tackifying resin, wax, and a liquid softener, in which the ethylene-based polymer includes at least one type of copolymer selected from the group consisting of an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer and an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer.

The invention also relates to a hot-melt adhesive for producing a bandage, to the use of a hot-melt adhesive for producing bandages, and to a method for producing a bandage. The hot-melt adhesive is based on a first polyolefin having—a proportion of 1-butene-derived monomer units; a proportion of ethylene-derived monomer units; and the hot-melt adhesive further comprises: at least one tackifier consisting of hydrocarbon resin and/or of hydrogenated hydrocarbon resin. The hot-melt adhesive can also contain a second polyolefin, preferably an amorphous polypropylene homo- or copolymer.
