FOAMABLE HOT MELT GASKET SEALANTS AND USE THEREOF

The invention relates to a one-part, foamable hot melt gasket sealant. The foamable hot melt adhesive comprises greater than about 35 wt % of a rubber block copolymer, a tackifier and less than about 5 wt % of a wax. The foamable hot melt adhesive can be applied onto a space in between two mating surfaces without expensive foam-in-place equipment. The foamable hot melt gasket sealant is particularly suitable in automotive applications, electrical component and technical lighting sectors.

A resin composition including at least (A) an epoxy resin, (B) a curing agent and (C) an inorganic filler, satisfies the following conditions: (I-I) the minimum modulus is no greater than 10.sup.4 MPa when evaluated at a set temperature of 200° C. after temperature increase from room temperature to 200° C. at 50° C./min by evaluation with a rheometer, and the final modulus is 10.sup.5 MPa or greater from 10 minutes after the initial temperature increase; (I-II) the softening point of the epoxy resin (A) is 35° C. or higher; (I-III) the residual solvent in the resin composition is no greater than 0.1%; and (I-IV) the equivalent value of the curing agent (B) is no greater than 90 g/eq and the softening point is 105° C. or higher.

Plasticizer free caulks and sealants comprising waterborne acrylic polymeric composites and methods for making the same

The present invention provides aqueous caulk or sealant compositions that are substantially free of any plasticizer comprising an aqueous emulsion copolymer having a broad measured glass transition temperature by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), soft phases and hard phases, and two separate Tan Delta transition temperatures as measured by dimensional mechanical analysis (DMA), (ii) one or more filler in a filler to binder ratio of up to 4:1, and (iii) from 0.2 to 5 wt. % as solids, based on the total weight of the composition, of one or more thickener or rheology modifier. In addition, the invention provides methods of making the composition comprising polymerizing by gradually adding from a flask into a polymerization vessel a soft monomer composition, and, after feeding at least 20 wt. % of such composition in the vessel, gradually adding into the flask a hard comonomer composition, feeding all flask contents into the vessel and polymerizing.

An acrylic rubber that is a copolymer in which 1 to 3 wt. % of a fumaric acid monoalkyl ester monomer containing an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms is copolymerized as a crosslinkable comonomer, wherein 45 to 65 wt. % of n-butyl acrylate, 12 to 32 wt. % of 2-methoxyethyl acrylate, and 11 to 30 wt. % of ethoxyethoxyethyl acrylate are copolymerized in 100 wt. % of comonomers other than the crosslinkable comonomer. This acrylic rubber can suppress the reduction of oil resistance while improving cold resistance represented by a TR-10 value.

The methods comprise providing (a) a base polymer having at least one functional group capable of crosslinking, (b) a functionalized extender, and (c) heat, and reacting the base polymer and functionalized extender in the presence of the heat to form the hybrid thermoplastic gel. The gel composition may comprise 5-40 wt % of a base polymer, 60-95 wt % of a functionalized extender, and 0-10 wt % of a crosslinker. A closure or interconnect system may comprise a housing, a cable, and a hybrid thermoplastic gel or sealant. A telecommunications apparatus may comprise a telecommunications component and a sealant that forms a seal with the telecommunications component. The sealant may comprise a sealant material having a first range of elongation followed by a second range of elongation.
