Regioselectively substituted cellulose esters having a plurality of pivaloyl substituents and a plurality of aryl-acyl substituents are disclosed along with methods for making the same. Such cellulose esters may be suitable for use in films, such as +A optical films, and/or +C optical films. Optical films prepared employing such cellulose esters have a variety of commercial applications, such as, for example, as compensation films in liquid crystal displays and/or waveplates in creating circular polarized light used in 3-D technology.

The present invention provides a polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display device comprising same, the polarizing plate comprising: a polarizer; and a first retardation layer and a second retardation layer formed on one surface of the polarizer, wherein the first retardation layer has a thickness direction retardation (Rth) of about −75 nm to about −130 nm at a wavelength of about 550 nm, the second retardation layer satisfies Relations 1 and 2, a laminated body of the first retardation layer and the second retardation layer has a thickness direction retardation (Rth) of about −70 nm to about 0 nm at a wavelength of about 550 nm, and the first retardation layer includes a coating layer formed of a composition containing a cellulose ester-based compound.

The present invention is to provide an optical film having optically anisotropic layer having excellent durability, and a polarizing plate and an image display device using the same. An optical film of the present invention is an optical film having at least an optically anisotropic layer, in which the optically anisotropic layer is a layer obtained by polymerizing a polymerizable liquid crystal composition containing a predetermined liquid crystal compound and a polymerization initiator, and an extrapolated glass transition starting temperature of the optically anisotropic layer is 70° C. or higher.
Curable composition
The present application relates to a curable composition. The curable composition of the present application exhibits excellent adhesion ability and liquid crystal orientation ability simultaneously before or after curing, so that it can be effectively applied to various optical uses.

The present invention aims to provide an image display device including an optical film having a thickness suitable for practical use without including any special inorganic material, wherein the image display device has high color rendering properties and is capable of minimizing the occurrence of blackout and interference colors (rainbow unevenness) even when the image display device includes light sources that emit light having a narrow emission spectrum. The present invention provides an image display device including an optical film having an in-plane birefringence and a polarizer in this order, wherein the optical film and the polarizer are disposed to form an angle of about 45° between a slow axis of the optical film and an absorption axis of the polarizer, the optical film has a retardation of 3000 nm or more, and light incident on the optical film provides at least 50% coverage of ITU-R BT.2020.

A composite liquid crystal layer, a method for fabricating the same, a display panel, and a display device are disclosed. The method includes coating a polymer liquid crystal composite system on a substrate, the polymer liquid crystal composite system including a photosensitive group that includes self-assembling material, and a liquid crystal polymer material, photo-aligning the polymer liquid crystal composite system, so that the photosensitive group containing self-assembling material is formed into an oriented structure, and the liquid crystal polymer material is aligned under the action of the oriented structure, and curing the aligned liquid crystal polymer material, to form a polymer liquid crystal layer with a specified alignment structure. The polymer liquid crystal layer with a specified alignment structure is formed by photo-aligning and curing after coating is performed for one time, which simplifies the process and greatly improves production efficiency.
