A method of repairing or replacing a roof of a coke oven battery in operation, said coke oven battery including a number of parallel coking chambers separated by heating walls and delimited on top by a ceiling, itself covered by a roof, the roof having for each coking chamber a number of charging holes or gas transfer holes above the coking chamber, a number of inspection holes above the separating heating walls, one or two base rings connected to one or two gas collecting mains and rail sleepers supporting rails for a coke charging car or charging gas transfer car through an ascension pipe. A kit of parts with construction modules and the use of such kit of parts in the repairing or replacing of a roof of a coke oven battery in operation and or with at least one oven empty in hot condition is also related.

An oven lining shape measuring method includes installing a laser three-dimensional shape measuring device outside a carbonization chamber from which an oven door has been removed. The method further includes measuring an oven lining shape of the carbonization chamber with the laser three-dimensional shape measuring device. When T.sub.W is an oven temperature of the carbonization chamber, t is a time from removal of the oven door to a start of measurement with the laser three-dimensional shape measuring device, and L is a distance from an oven port to the laser three-dimensional shape measuring device, the oven lining shape of the carbonization chamber is measured after the time t and the distance L are determined to satisfy inequality (1): (10/t)/{(L+4)/5.5}.sup.2T.sub.W.sup.44.110.sup.12 . . . (1).

An oven lining shape measuring method includes installing a laser three-dimensional shape measuring device outside a carbonization chamber from which an oven door has been removed. The method further includes measuring an oven lining shape of the carbonization chamber with the laser three-dimensional shape measuring device.
