Systems and methods include treating a crude oil inlet feed stream with a high pressure production trap (HPPT), a low pressure production trap (LPPT), a low pressure degassing tank (LPDT), a first heat exchanger, a second heat exchanger, a LPPT recycle water stream, a fresh wash water supply stream, and a LPDT recycle water stream, where the LPDT recycle water stream is operable to supply recycle water from the LPDT to an output stream from the HPPT to form the LPPT inlet feed stream.

A process plant and process for conversion of a hydrocarbonaceous feed, having a feed temperature, to a hydrocarbonaceous effluent, having an effluent temperature, by hydrotreatment, in the presence of a material catalytically active in hydrotreatment and an amount of hydrogen, wherein the conversion is exothermal and wherein an amount of the effluent will solidify at a solidification temperature above the feed temperature and below the effluent temperature, and wherein the feed is preheated by heat exchange, utilizing thermal energy from said effluent, wherein the heat exchange is mediated by a fluid heat exchange medium being physically separated from the feed and the effluent and having a temperature above the solidification temperature, with the associated benefit of such a process being highly energy effective, while avoiding solidification in the process lines, especially when hydrotreating feedstocks including halides.

Process and apparatus for two-stage solvent extraction of hydrocarbon products is disclosed. The process comprises passing a heavy hydrocarbon feed stream and a first fresh solvent to a first extraction column to generate a first overhead stream and a first bottom stream. The first overhead stream is passed to a first stripping column to generate a first product stream and a first stripped solvent stream. The first bottom stream is passed to a second extraction column to generate a second overhead stream and a second bottom stream. A second fresh solvent stream is passed to a second extraction column. The second overhead stream is passed to a second stripping column to generate a second product stream and a second stripped solvent stream. Passing the first stripped solvent stream and the second stripped solvent stream to a solvent recovery column and passing the second bottom stream to a pitch stripper.
MULTISTAGE SOLVENT EXTRACTION PROCESS AND APPARATUS

Emulsion layer alarm system for prevention of process upsets in electrostatic coalescers
A computer-implemented method includes receiving, by a programmable logic controller coupled to a control unit associated with a vessel containing oil and water within a Gas-Oil-Separation Plant (GOSP), a first signal representing a first capacitance measurement detected by a first capacitance probe attached to the vessel at a first elevation. Determining whether an alarm condition is met by detecting whether the first capacitance measurement is higher than a first predetermined maximum limit, or a rate of change (ROC) of the first capacitance measurement is higher than a first predetermined ROC limit, or both. If the alarm condition is met, sending an alarm signal indicating that an upcoming process upset has been detected within the vessel. Subsequent alarms at higher elevations, if available, can alarm operators if the emulsion layer thickness continues to increase and further mitigation measures are required (such as higher demulsifier dosage, skimming of emulsion layer, etc.).
