Disclosed herein are scavenging and antifouling compositions useful in applications relating to the production, transportation, storage, and separation of crude oil and natural gas. Also disclosed herein are methods of using the compositions as scavengers and antifoulants, particularly in applications relating to the production, transportation, storage, and separation of crude oil and natural gas.

WINTERIZED POUR POINT DEPRESSANTS

This disclosure relates to winterized pour point depressant compositions for petroleum fluids. Such compositions exhibit stability and are flowable at temperatures down to as low as 47 C., without the need for further dilution.

Oil Anti-Foulant and/or Asphaltene Agglomeration Process

Fouling and/or asphaltene agglomeration (or flocculation) in midstream processes and transportation and in upstream transportation of a hydrocarbon oil is reduced by providing in the oil an additive combination including; (A) a polyalkenyl-substituted carboxylic acid or anhydride, and (B) a metal detergent system comprising a hydrocarbyl-substituted hydroxybenzoate metal salt or a hydrocarbyl-substituted sulfonate metal salt or a mixure of both salts or a complex thereof,
where the mass:mass ratio of (A) to (B) is in the range of 20:1 to 1:20 and the treat rate of the additive is in the range of 5 to 10000 ppm by mass.

Oil-in-water emulsions

The invention relates to an oil-in-water emulsion comprising an oil phase and an aqueous phase, and a primary surfactant, wherein the oil phase is dispersed in the aqueous phase, and wherein the oil-in-water emulsion has: an average droplet size distribution (D[4,3]) in the range of from 3 to 15 um and less than 3 wt % of the droplets have a particle size of greater than 125 um; a viscosity of greater than 100 and up to 700 mPas at 50 C.+10% and 20 s.sup.1+10%; and a static stability of less than 5% residue after centrifugation at 50 C.+10% and 2000 g=10% for 30 minutes+10%.

Transportable combustible gaseous suspension of solid fuel particles

A transportable and combustible gaseous suspension includes solid fuel particles suspended in a gaseous carrier. The solid fuel particles have a sufficiently small particle size so that they remain suspended during transportation. The gaseous carrier may include reactive and inert gases. The solid fuel particles may include coal-derived solid carbonaceous matter. Other examples of solid fuel particles include biomass, refined bioproducts, and combustible polymer particles. The combustible gaseous suspension can be tailored to have an energy density at atmospheric pressure which is comparable to conventional gaseous hydrocarbon fuels. The gaseous combustible fuel may be pressurized to a pressure in the range from 2 to 100 atmospheres.

The method involves a) providing a composition comprising at least one nonionic alkoxylated surfactant; and b) prior to the addition of said composition to an aircraft fuel, thermally cycling said composition by (i) chilling the composition from a first temperature to a second temperature that causes metal ions and/or associated ions contained therein to precipitate as ionic salts; (ii) filtering the chilled composition to remove the precipitated ionic salts; and (iii) heating the filtered composition to the first temperature.
