Method for reducing engine wear with lubricants comprising 2-hydroxyalkylamide friction modifying/anti-wear compositions
Lubricant compositions comprising an improved ashless organic friction modifier additive have been found to be capable of reducing both friction and wear. It has been found that mixtures of fatty-alkanolamides containing secondary hydroxyls on the amino alkyl substituent, such as amide mixtures prepared from bis(2-hydroxypropyl)amine and mixtures of at least two different C.sub.8-24 fatty acids, provide better oil solubility and friction reduction than alkanolamides with primary, hydroxyl functionality, such as amide mixtures prepared from di-ethanol)amine.
POWDER LUBRICANT BASED ON FATTY ACIDS AND FATTY ACID GLYCERIDES AND USE THEREOF
A dry lubricant composition in powder form is provided based on a mixture of alkali metal salts of fatty acids and fatty acid glycerides which is useful in the production of aluminium cans in a deep drawing process, wherein the formed aluminium cans are immediately further processed to yield thin inorganic and/or organic protective coatings. The invention also encompasses the use of the lubricating powder for cold forming of aluminium as well as a process for the deep drawing of aluminium cans.

Lubricating oil compositions containing encapsulated microscale particles
A method for improving wear control in an engine or other mechanical component lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and encapsulated boron-containing microscale particles, as a minor component. The minor component preferably contains no metal or sulfur, and preferably no phosphorus. The encapsulated boron-containing microscale particles include an encapsulating material and a boron-containing compound encapsulated by the encapsulating material. The boron-containing compound is a boron oxide, a boric acid, or mixtures thereof. The encapsulating material is a carboxylic acid selected from an aliphatic carboxylic acid, a cycloaliphatic carboxylic acid, an aromatic carboxylic acid, and mixtures thereof. The lubricating oils are useful in internal combustion engines.
