The invention also relates to a process for preparing the antimicrobial particle. The antimicrobial particle comprises thymol and terpineol incorporated in a cage-forming inorganic silicate or aluminosilicate particle which is coated with a coating material selected from a water soluble alkali or alkaline earth metal salt.
