Low viscosity gear oil compositions for electric and hybrid vehicles
This disclosure relates to a lubricating oil (e.g., gear oil) for use in an electric or hybrid vehicle. The lubricating oil has a composition including one or more lubricating oil base stocks as a major component, and one or more lubricating oil additives, as a minor component. The one or more lubricating oil base stocks include at least one Group IV base oil, or at least one Group V base oil. The lubricating oil has a kinematic viscosity (KV.sub.100) from 1 cSt to 7 cSt at 100° C. as determined by ASTM D-445, and an electrical conductivity at room temperature of less than 15,000 pS/m as determined by ASTM D-2624. This disclosure also relates to methods for producing a lubricating oil for a transmission, gear train, gear set, gear box, or gears of an electric vehicle powertrain and methods for improving energy efficiency, while maintaining or improving wear control.

An improved organic and molybdenum friction modifier combination is disclosed, the combination resulting in a synergistic result of both initial friction reduction performance and a further retention and durability of continued friction reduction performance. These results will produce added benefit from, e.g., formulated passenger car motor oils targeting lower viscosity formulations to help improve fuel economy.

TRIBOTECHNICAL COMPOSITIONS FROM SELF-ASSEMBLED CARBON NANOARCHITECTONICS, AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF
In one or more embodiments, this application relates to tribotechnical additive and lubricant compositions based on self-assembled carbon nanoarchitectonics derived through nanoscale modifications of organosilane-functionalized nanocarbon with one or multiple combinations of organo-molybdenum, organo-boron, organo-sulfur, organo-phosphorus, and heterocyclic compounds. The novel lubricant is characterized by having a composition comprising (A) one or more types of the novel additive compositions, (B) Base oil//lubricant, and optionally (C) one or more additives selected from the group including antioxidants, dispersants, detergents, anti-wear additives, extreme pressure additives, friction modifiers, viscosity index modifiers, seal swell additives, defoamers, pour point depressants and corrosion/rust inhibitors. The selfassembled carbon nanoarchitectonics is expected to enhance the surface chemistry, antiwear, antifriction, antioxidancy, electrothermal, and corrosion inhibiting characteristics of the tribotechnical compositions for formulating high-quality solutions in a wide range of applications.
TRIBOTECHNICAL COMPOSITIONS FROM SELF-ASSEMBLED CARBON NANOARCHITECTONICS, AND APPLICATIONS THEREOF
In one or more embodiments, this application relates to tribotechnical additive and lubricant compositions based on self-assembled carbon nanoarchitectonics derived through nanoscale modifications of organosilane-functionalized nanocarbon with one or multiple combinations of organo-molybdenum, organo-boron, organo-sulfur, organo-phosphorus, and heterocyclic compounds. Lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engine
A lubricating oil composition for an internal combustion engine includes: a lubricant base oil including at least one mineral base oil, at least one synthetic base oil, or any combination thereof, and having a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 3.0 to 4.0 mm.sup.2/s and a NOACK evaporation loss at 250° C. of no more than 15 mass %; (A) a calcium-containing metallic detergent in an amount of no less than 1000 mass ppm and less than 2000 mass ppm in terms of calcium; (B) a magnesium-containing metallic detergent in an amount of 100 to 1000 mass ppm in terms of magnesium; (G) a zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate in an amount of no less than 600 mass ppm in terms of phosphorus; and optionally (C) a viscosity index improver in an amount of no more than 5 mass %.
Grease composition including copper sulfide for constant velocity joints
A grease composition is intended primarily for use in constant velocity joins (CV joints), especially ball joints and/or tripod joints, which are used in the drivelines of motor vehicles. The grease composition for use in constant velocity joints comprises at least one base oil, and least one thickener, at least one copper sulfide in an amount of approximately 0.01 wt-% up to approximately 1.5 wt-% of the grease composition, molybdenum disulfide and/or at least one phosphorus-free organic molybdenum complex in an amount of approximately 0.1 wt-% up to approximately 5.0 wt-% of the grease composition. Further, a constant velocity joint comprises the grease composition.
LUBRICATING COMPOSITION COMPRISING A PHASE-CHANGE MATERIAL
Disclosed is a lubricating composition including a base oil, a surfactant system and a phase-change material, especially water. The lubricating composition according to the invention is used to lubricate engines, especially for a vehicle. It has improved thermal performances compared to lubricating compositions of prior art. It also reduces clogging of the engine parts.
LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION
Provided is a lubricating oil composition to be used in an internal combustion engine having a sliding mechanism including a piston ring and a liner, the lubricating oil composition including: a base oil; (A) a poly(meth)acrylate; and (B) an organic molybdenum compound, in which: (A) the poly(meth)acrylate contains a polymer (A1) including a repeating unit derived from a (meth)acrylate represented by the following formula (1) and having a mass-average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 500,000; and a content of (B) the organic molybdenum compound in a total amount of the composition is from 0.01 mass % to 0.2 mass % in terms of a molybdenum atom: wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and X represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 60 carbon atoms, or a functional group-containing hydrocarbon group having 1 to 60 carbon atoms.
