Production of renewable base oil and diesel by pre-fractionation of fatty acids
11162033 · 2021-11-02 · ·

Methods are disclosed for producing renewable base oil and a diesel oil from low-value biological oils. Low-value biological oils containing free fatty acids and fatty acid esters can be processed into a renewable base oil and a renewable diesel oil by first separating at least part of the saturated free fatty acids from the feedstock and then processing separately this saturated free acid feed in a ketonisation reaction followed by hydrodeoxygenation and hydroisomerisation reactions to yield a renewable base oil stream. The remaining free fatty acid depleted feed may be processed in a separate hydrodeoxygenation and hydroisomerisation step to yield a renewable diesel stream.

Additive composition for improvement of miscibility of lubricants in air-conditioning and refrigeration systems

A lubricant additive for introduction into an AC/R system to improve lubricant miscibility and performance in the AC/R system.

Lubricant composition

Lubricant compositions comprising a base oil, one or more antioxidants selected from a group consisting of N-α-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants and diphenylamine antioxidants; and a sulfur-containing additive comprising up to seven carbon atoms exhibit outstanding oxidative stability and non-corrosion properties. The N-α-naphthyl-N-phenylamine antioxidants plus diphenylamine antioxidants in total may be present from about 0.2 wt % to about 0.8 wt %, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition. The sulfur provided by the sulfur-containing additive may be present from about 50 ppm to about 1000 ppm by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricant composition.

METHOD FOR CONVERTING CARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND ESTERS INTO BASE OIL HYDROCARBONS

A number of different branched hydrocarbon compounds (formula I) having a star-like configuration (S) are prepared from renewable oils containing fatty acids or derivatives containing fatty acids. The branched hydrocarbon compounds may be isolated individually or in mixtures, and may be used as part of base oils, such as renewable base oils (RBOs). A process for preparing the branched hydrocarbon compounds of formula I involve conditions that favour a trimerisation reaction followed by hydrotreating conditions. The compounds of formula I may be made by catalytically treating renewable material in a process, and the compounds have desirable qualities relating to lubrication, cold flow as well as having a low Noack volatility.

LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS HAVING ENHANCED ESTOLIDE CONTENT, METHODS OF MAKING, AND USES THEREOF

Various liquid and semisolid lubricant compositions are provided, in particular lubricant compositions are provided which have been chemically modified to increase a concentration of triacylglyceride estolide content. The estolides can be produced via esterification with one or more fatty acids such as palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, lauric acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, or a combination thereof. Both liquid and semisolid lubricant compositions are provided.

LIQUID AND SEMISOLID LUBRICANT COMPOSITIONS, METHODS OF MAKING, AND USES THEREOF

Various liquid and semisolid lubricant compositions are provided, in particular lubricant compositions containing oil from the seeds of the Brassicaceae Orychophragmus violaceus, preferably those that have been esterified with one or more fatty acids such as palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, lauric acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, or a combination thereof. In various aspects, lubricant compositions are provided that include a petroleum or a synthetic base oil and about 40% or less by weight of a liquid lubricant composition containing oil from the seeds of the Brassicaceae Orychophragmus violaceus, preferably those that have been esterified with one or more fatty acids. In various aspects, semisolid lubricant composition are provided containing an emulsion of (i) a thickener and (ii) an oil from the seeds of the Brassicaceae Orychophragmus violaceus, preferably those that have been esterified with one or more fatty acids.

METAL CLEANING COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING FUROATE ESTERS AND USES THEREFOR

Disclosed are metal cleaning formulations and methods of use. A formulation of the present teachings comprises one or more furoate esters such as ethyl 5-methyl-2-furoate and methyl 5-methyl-2-furoate. The formulations further comprise a base oil, which can be, for example, a naphthenic oil, a synthetic oil or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, a formulation can further comprise a metal protection additive and a lubrication additive. A variety of base oils, metal protection additives, and lubrication additives are suitable for use in the present teachings. Formulations of the present teachings are especially useful for the cleaning of metal products such as firearms. The cleaning power of a formulation of the instant teachings can exceed that required for US Military Specifications.
