Compositions prepared from an adduct of mono-maleated polyunsaturated vegetable oil and an alcohol mixture comprising a hydrophobic alcohol having at least 9 carbon atoms and methoxypolyethylene glycol having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) of at least 350. Metalworking fluids comprising less than 3 wt % of a composition that is an adduct of mono-maleated polyunsaturated vegetable oil and an alcohol mixture comprising an alcohol having at least 2 carbon atoms and methoxypolyethylene glycol having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) of at least 350. Methods of improving the stability and/or lubricity of a metalworking fluid using a composition that is adduct of mono-maleated polyunsaturated vegetable oil and an alcohol mixture comprising an alcohol having at least 2 carbon atoms and methoxypolyethylene glycol having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) of at least 350.

Gelling nanofluids for dispersion stability

A gelling nanofluid and methods for manufacture are provided. The composition and methods for manufacture produce nanofluid gels so that the settlement of nanoparticles in a base fluid is improved due to the inhibition of particle movement in the gel. The nanofluid gel is produced by using a gelling agent which is either coated on the nanoparticles prior to dispersion in the base fluid or directly introduced in the base fluid.

NANO-HYBRID LUBRICANT AND METHOD THEREOF, AND OIL-BASED DRILLING FLUID

The present invention relates to the well drilling field in petroleum industry, in particular to a nano-hybrid lubricant and method thereof, and oil-based drilling fluid. The lubricant comprises: graphite oxide and a biquaternary ammonium salt compound of which the cation part is represented by formula (1). The present invention also provides a method for preparation of the lubricant and an oil-based drilling fluid containing the lubricant. The lubricant provided in the present invention can be comprehended as a nano-hybrid material. Thus, oil-based drilling fluids that contain the lucbricant provided in the present invention have lower lubrication coefficient and excellent lubricating property without or with little negative impact on rheological property of the oil fluid, and the lubricant provided in the present invention has excellent thermostability thus suitable for use in operation at a high temperature.

In particular, the invention relates to an ether carboxylic acid or a derivative thereof obtainable by reacting a branched polyol alkoxylate with a halogen carboxylic acid or a halogen carboxylic acid derivative. Further aspects of the invention relate to a lubricant composition comprising an ether carboxylic acid of the invention and the use of said ether carboxylic acid.

Hydraulic fluid composition

A hydraulic fluid includes an oil of lubricating viscosity and at least 2 wt. % of an ester of a carboxy group-containing interpolymer comprising units derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer and units derived from a carboxylic acid monomer. The interpolymer also contains nitrogen functionality. The hydraulic fluid is at least substantially free of polyacrylates and polymethacrylates.

Lubricating oil composition

A lubricating oil composition includes at least one base oil selected from the group consisting of a mineral oil-based lubricating oil, a synthetic oil-based lubricating oil, and a mixed oil thereof, zinc dialkyldithiophosphate X represented by Formula (1), and an acid phosphate ester amine salt Y represented by Formula (2), in which a content P.sub.X of the X is from 0.06% by mass to 0.08% by mass in terms of phosphorus concentration with respect to a total mass of the lubricating oil composition, and a content P.sub.Y of the Y is from 0.015% by mass to 0.025% by mass in terms of phosphorus concentration with respect to the total mass of the lubricating oil composition.

A polymer surfactant for improving engine oil emulsion properties of a lubricating composition mixed with water and/or fuel contamination, particularly at very cold temperatures, is described herein. In approaches, selected polymeric and functionalized compounds can impart both robust emulsion properties and simultaneously deliver good low temperature fluidity for lubricating compositions that may contain residual amounts of water and/or fuel contamination. Lubricating compositions including such surfactants demonstrate robust properties at temperatures down to about −30° C.
