The disclosed technology provides a lubricating composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 wt % to 10 wt % of an oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound, wherein the aromatic compound has at least one alkoxy group represented by −OR.sup.1 group, R.sup.1 is hydroxyalkyl, or a (poly)ether group, and either: at least one hydroxyl group, or at least one alkoxy group represented by —OR.sup.1 group, where R.sup.1 is alkyl, or a (poly)ether group, or at least one oxyalkyl group represented by —OR.sup.1, where R.sup.1 is hydroxyalkyl or a (poly)ether group. The disclosed technology further relates to a method of lubricating a mechanical device (such as an internal combustion engine) with the lubricating composition. The disclosed technology further relates to the use of the oxyalkylated aromatic polyol compound in the lubricating composition to a passenger car internal combustion engine at least one of (i) control of fuel economy, (ii) control of corrosion, (iii) cleanliness, and (iv) control of bore wear.

LUBRICATING OIL ADDITIVES

A lubricating composition comprises an oil-soluble poly(2-oxazoline) additive having the repeat unit:


—N(COR.sup.1)CH.sub.2CH.sub.2— where the number of repeat units (n) is an integer between 4 and 1000; where the polymer carries an inorganic or organic nucleophilic polymerization terminating group t, and a linear, branched or cyclic hydrocarbyl polymerization initiator group (i); and where R.sup.1 comprises a single or a mixture of linear branched or cyclic hydrocarbyl groups having 1-100 carbon atoms, some or all having 12-100 carbon atoms, or of at least one macro-monomeric hydrocarbyl group with more than 50 carbon atoms provided that when the polymer is a homopolymer and R.sup.1 lacks any hetero atoms; (A) i has a molecular weight of less than 250 g/mol, and R.sup.1 has an average number of carbon atoms of 12 to 50; or (B) n is greater than 15.

The polymer may provide the composition, in the form of a lubricant, with friction modifier, and with low impact on lubricant viscosity.

The polymer may be a homopolymer, a block copolymer or a star polymer.

ENGINE OIL LUBRICANT COMPOSTIONS AND METHODS FOR MAKING SAME WITH SUPERIOR OIL CONSUMPTION

Provided is an engine oil lubricant composition with improved fuel economy. The engine oil lubricant composition may include about 40 wt % to about 80 wt % of a first oil base stock consisting of a Group IV base oil and about 10 wt % to about 40 wt % of a second oil base stock that is not a Group IV base oil, where these weight percents are based on the total weight of the engine oil lubricant composition. The engine oil lubricant composition can have an HTHS (ASTM D4683) of less than or equal to 2.2 cP at 150° C., a Noack volatility (ASTM D5800) of 25% or less, and an evaporation rate of 6% or less as measured by distillation method DIN 51454 mod. C17-C19.

LUBRICATING COMPOSITION WITH PHASE-CHANGE MATERIAL

Disclosed is a monophasic lubricating composition including a base oil, an oil chosen from the polyalkylene glycols (PAG) and a phase-change material, in particular water. The monophasic lubricating composition can be used, in particular, for lubricating a vehicle engine. It has improved thermal performance relative to the lubricant compositions of the prior art. It also helps reduce fouling of the engine parts.
