PROCESS FOR ENRICHMENT OF CAROTENOIDS IN A FATTY ACID COMPOSITION
A method for producing a carotenoid enriched fatty acid composition includes: reacting an oil including free fatty acids and carotenoids with a basic solution; withdrawing, separately from the oil, an extraction solution including at least a portion of the free fatty acids, at least a portion of the carotenoids, and the basic solution; acidifying the extraction solution to produce an aqueous phase and a fatty acid phase, the fatty acid phase including the free fatty acids and the carotenoids of the extraction solution; and separating the fatty acid phase from the aqueous phase.
COMPOUND EXTRACTION FROM PLANT BASED MATERIAL UTILIZING TEREPENE SATURANT
A method for extracting compounds from plant material utilizing terpenes as a solvent is described. The invention includes the excitation of the plant material and terpene solvent with microwave, ultrasound, heat input, and physical agitation or combinations thereof. The invention particularly covers the process as it relates to the extraction of THC and CBD and their derivatives from cannabis and hemp for the use in products for medical and recreational use. The combinations of terpene saturant, plant material strain and process variables can be tuned in order to dial in the final resultant product for several variables including but not limited to terpene content, THC or CBD potency, ratios of THC or CBD and their derivatives, or flavor profile.
Methods for reducing soap formation during vegetable oil refining
A method for refining vegetable oil is used to reduce formation of soaps. An acid-treated vegetable oil mixture is passed through a low shear mixing device prior to being fed to a static hydrodynamic reactor. The static hydrodynamic reactor induces a neutralization reaction that forms soaps in a pressurized vegetable oil mixture. The reacted mixture is discharged from the reactor to a downstream system for separating the formed soaps from the reacted mixture to form a refined vegetable oil having reduced soaps content.
Remediation of pesticides from agricultural oils
A method of remediating pesticides from an agricultural oil includes mixing a reaction solvent, a reducing agent, and an agricultural oil into a reaction mixture in a reaction vessel, controlling the temperature of the reaction mixture, producing a pre-neutralization mixture including a separation solvent, transferring the pre-neutralization mixture into a neutralization reactor that contains a neutralization agent, mixing the pre-neutralization mixture with the neutralization agent and allowing separation into an aqueous layer and a separation solvent layer, draining the aqueous layer, and distilling the separation solvent in the separation solvent layer from the remediated agricultural oils. A system has a reactor vessel, the reactor vessel having one or more inlets to allow a reducing agent, the agricultural oil, the separation solvent, and other additives as needed to produce a reaction mixture, a temperature control unit to control a temperature of the reaction mixture at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined time, a neutralization vessel fluidically connected to the reactor vessel to receive the reaction mixture from the reactor vessel, the neutralization vessel having an inlet to allow a neutralization agent to be introduced into the neutralization vessel to produce a neutralized reaction mixture, and a valve arranged at a bottom of the neutralization vessel to allow an aqueous phase of the reaction mixture to be drained from the neutralization vessel.
Methods for making free fatty acids and fatty acid derivatives from mixed lipid feedstocks or soapstocks
Provided are methods and systems for treating a soapstock. Provided are systems and methods for treating a soapstock to generate free fatty acids and/or fatty acid derivatives, and for realizing the full fatty acid yield of a soapstock by first converting substantially all of the saponifiable material in a soapstock to fatty acids and acidulating the soaps to generate free fatty acids and/or fatty acid derivatives, wherein the soapstock comprises soaps and saponifiable lipids, and the generating of free fatty acids is achieved. Provided are systems and methods for realizing the full fatty acid yield of a soapstock by first converting substantially all of the saponifiable material in a soapstock to salts of fatty acids and acidulating the soaps to generate free fatty acids and/or fatty acid derivatives, wherein the soapstock comprises soaps and saponifiable lipids, and the generating of free fatty acids is achieved.
EDIBLE MICROBIAL OIL
The present disclosure relates to a microbial oil and/or derivative thereof, wherein the oil is produced by an oleaginous yeast. The disclosure also relates to blended fat compositions comprising a vegetable oil and an edible microbial oil. The disclosure further relates edible microbial oils and derivatives, and to food products comprising an edible microbial oil and/or a derivative thereof, and/or a blended fat composition, and methods of producing such food products. The microbial oil may serve as vegetable oil alternatives and be processed and/or derivatized by any number of means known in the art.
BLOWN AND STRIPPED BLEND OF SOYBEAN OIL AND CORN STILLAGE OIL
A method for producing a high viscosity, low volatiles blown stripped oil blend is provided. The method may include the steps of: (i) obtaining an oil blend of corn stillage oil and soybean oil having a weight ratio of corn stillage oil to soybean oil of from about 1:2 to 3:1; (ii) heating the oil blend to at least 90 C.; (iii) passing air through the heated oil blend to produce a blown oil having a viscosity of at least 50 cSt at 40 C.; and (iv) stripping the blown oil from step (iii) to reduce an acid value of the blown oil to less than 5.0 mg KOH/gram.
COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS, 17-HDHA AND 18-HEPE AND METHODS OF USING SAME
The present invention relates to a polyunsaturated fatty acid composition comprising Omega-3 fatty acids, 17-HDHA and 18-HEPE. The composition can furthermore comprise DPA and/or an acceptable carrier and can be present in a capsule or other suitable dosage unit.
