Sustainable laundry sour compositions with iron control

Linen treatment compositions and linen processes are disclosed which help to prevent iron deposition from wash water, and/or redeposition after iron containing stain (such as blood) removal by alkaline detergents. The linen treatment composition is a combination of a hydroxycarboxylic acid and an acid source, which may be organic or inorganic. The invention provides for effective iron control in a phosphorus-free formula that is also free of toxic or hazardous chemicals and includes sustainable, environmentally friendly ingredients, while still providing effective iron control.

A composition including a plurality of particles, the particles including: about 25% to about 94% by weight a water soluble carrier, about 5% to about 45% by weight a quaternary ammonium compound; and about 0.5% to about 10% by weight a cationic polymer, wherein the plurality of particles comprises individual particles; wherein each of the individual particles has a mass from about 1 mg to about 1 g; wherein each of the individual particles has a density less than about 0.98 g/cm.sup.3.

PROCESS FOR MAKING A LAUNDRY DETERGENT COMPOSITION

The present invention relates to a process for preparing a solid free-flowing particulate laundry detergent composition, wherein the process includes the steps of: (a) forming a mixture by contacting: (i) molten fatty acid; (ii) liquid alkaline ingredient, and (iii) non-ionic surfactant, to obtain a mixture, wherein the mixture includes: (i) partially neutralized fatty acid component; (ii) non-ionic surfactant; and (iii) water, wherein the molar ratio of fatty acid to liquid alkaline ingredient contacted together in step (a) is above 1:1; (b) contacting the mixture obtained in step (a) to a detergent powder to form a solid free-flowing particulate laundry detergent composition, wherein in step (b) the mixture is contacted to the detergent powder by spraying the mixture at a temperature of greater than 50° C. onto the detergent powder, wherein the detergent powder includes a detergent ingredient.
