20220323927 · 2022-10-13 ·

The disclosure is directed to a process and an apparatus for providing a feedstock. A gaseous feed stream comprising at least one hydrocarbon is passed to a reforming unit followed by a water gas shift reaction zone to provide a first gaseous stream comprising H.sub.2, CO, and CO.sub.2. The first gaseous stream is fed a hydrogen separation zone to separate it into a hydrogen enriched stream and a second gaseous stream comprising CO, CO.sub.2 and H.sub.2. The second gaseous stream is fed to a CO.sub.2 to CO conversion system to produce a third gaseous stream comprising H.sub.2 and CO having a H.sub.2:CO molar ratio of less than 5:1. The third gaseous stream is fed as the feedstock for a gas fermentation unit to have increased stability and product selectivity.

PROCESS FOR IMPROVING CARBON CONVERSION EFFICIENCY

The disclosure provides for the integration of a CO-consuming process, such as a gas fermentation process, with a CO.sub.2 to CO conversion system. The disclosure is capable of utilizing a CO.sub.2-comprising gaseous substrate generated by an industrial process and provides for one or more removal modules to remove at least one constituent from a CO.sub.2-comprising gaseous substrate prior to passage of the gaseous substrate to a CO.sub.2 to CO conversion system. The disclosure may further comprise one or more pressure modules, one or more CO.sub.2 concentration modules, one or more O.sub.2 separation modules, and/or a water electrolysis module. Carbon conversion efficiency is increased by recycling CO.sub.2 produced by a CO-consuming process to the CO.sub.2 to CO conversion process.

The method and system may further include process for the production of methanol processes for the production of acetic acid.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PRODUCING A SUGAR STREAM
20230203552 · 2023-06-29 ·

An improved dry grind system and method for producing a sugar stream from grains or similar carbohydrate sources and/or residues, such as for biofuel production. In particular, a sugar/carbohydrate stream, which includes a desired Dextrose Equivalent (DE) where DE describes the degree of conversion of starch to dextrose (aka glucose) and/or has had removed therefrom an undesirable amount of unfermentable components, can be produced after saccharification and prior to fermentation (or other sugar conversion process), with such sugar stream being available for biofuel production, e.g., alcohol production, or other processes. In addition, the systems and methods also can involve the removal of certain grain components, e.g., corn kernel components, including protein, oil and/or fiber, prior to fermentation or other conversion systems. In other words, sugar stream production and/or grain component separation occurs on the front end of the system and method.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR EXTRACTING OIL FROM FOOD WASTE

A method and device for extracting oil from food waste is disclosed. Food waste is introduced into an elongated cylinder that is immersed under hot water. A drive shaft is actuated that simultaneously presses the food waste against an interior wall and moves the food waste through the cylinder. The content of the cylinder is subjected to steam treatment using a steam inlet in the cylinder. The combination of hot water, steam treatment and pressing recovers a high content of oil from the food waste.

PLUG FLOW HYDROLYSIS REACTOR AND PROCESS OF USING SAME

Provided herein is a process for hydrolyzing a cellulosic feedstock to produce sugar. The process comprises introducing a pretreated cellulosic slurry to an inlet region of a plug flow hydrolysis reactor using a slurry introduction device that reduces the axial momentum of the slurry at the surface of the reactor contents. The cellulosic feedstock slurry is hydrolyzed in the plug flow hydrolysis reactor by contacting the cellulosic feedstock with at least cellulase enzymes to produce glucose. Also provided herein is a vertically-oriented, unmixed downflow hydrolysis reactor for hydrolyzing a pretreated cellulosic feedstock slurry which comprises such a slurry introduction device disposed in a top region thereof.

INTEGRATED PROCESS FOR FILTERING CONSTITUENTS FROM A GAS STREAM
20220372426 · 2022-11-24 ·

The invention provides a process for producing a fermentable gas stream from a gas source that contains one or more constituent which may be harmful to the fermentation process. To produce the fermentable gas stream, the gas stream is passed through a specifically ordered series of removal modules. The removal modules remove and/or convert various constituents found in the gas stream which may have harmful effects on downstream removal modules and/or inhibitory effects on downstream gas fermenting microorganisms. At least a portion of the fermentable gas stream is preferably capable of being passed to a bioreactor, which contains gas fermenting microorganisms, without inhibiting the fermentation process.
