Processes and systems for alcohol production and recovery

The present invention relates to processes for recovering butanol produced in a fermentative process using, for example, an ethanol production plant which has been reversibly-retrofitted for butanol production, that is, the ethanol production plant may be converted for butanol production, but can also revert to an ethanol production. The present invention also relates to processes for recovering butanol produced in a fermentative process in a butanol production plant that may be converted to ethanol production plant.

Yeast stage tank incorporated fermentation system and method
11427839 · 2022-08-30 · ·

Methods of and system for growing and maintaining an optimized/ideal active yeast solution in the yeast tank and fermenter tank during the fermentation filling cycle are provided. A new yeast stage tank is used between the yeast tank and the fermenter tank allowing yeast to rapidly produce a huge amount of active young yeast cells for a fermenter during the filling period. A measurable and useful controlling factor, % DT/% Yeast by weight ratio (or “food” to yeast ratio), is used (e.g., % DT=glucose), which offers information on the health status of the yeast. The controlling factor is used to control the status of the yeast throughout the entire process.

Fermentation system and fermentation method using saccharide solution

An alcohol production system that produces alcohol by alcoholic fermentation using a saccharide solution, including an alcoholic fermentation vessel in which the saccharide solution is fermented by adding yeast to produce alcohol, which is an organic feedstock, and a biomass-hydrothermally-treated-product adding means that adds a biomass hydrothermally-treated product obtained by hydrothermally treating a biomass feedstock to the alcoholic fermentation vessel. The alcohol production system can improve alcoholic fermentation efficiency and realize cost reduction without adding only a mineral salt from outside.

PRODUCTION METHOD FOR LIPID PARTICLES IN LIQUID AND METHOD FOR CULTURING MICROORGANISMS

A method for producing lipid particles, including: injecting molten lipids directly into a liquid at a temperature lower than a melting point of the lipids through a liquid supply port of a two-fluid nozzle while injecting a gas directly into the liquid through a gas supply port of the two-fluid nozzle, so that the molten lipids are dispersed and atomized into particles in the liquid due to the gas and the particles are solidified to form lipid particles. The lipids have a water solubility of 10 g/L or less at 25° C. and are solid at 25° C. The two-fluid nozzle is heated to a temperature at least 10° C. higher than the melting point of the lipids. A ratio D50/Nd of a volume median diameter D50 of the lipid particles to an orifice diameter Nd of the liquid supply port of the two-fluid nozzle is 0.0017 or more and 0.17 or less.

Conversion of biomass, organic waste and carbon dioxide into synthetic hydrocarbons

A process and system for producing a synthetic hydrocarbon having a desired H/C ratio is disclosed. Organic material is biochemically digested in a two stage biodigester for separately producing a hydrogen containing biogas substantially free of methane in a first stage and a methane containing biogas in a second stage. The methane containing biogas is reformed in a first reformer to generate hydrogen gas and carbon monoxide gas, which are then combined in a mixer with the hydrogen containing biogas into a syngas in amounts to achieve in the syngas an overall H/C ratio substantially equal to the desired H/C ratio. The syngas is reacted with a catalyst in a second reformer, a Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reactor, to produce the hydrocarbon. Using a two stage biodigester allows for the generation of separate hydrogen and methane streams, a more economical generation of the FT syngas and reduced fouling of the FT catalyst.

Method and Apparatus for Reducing CO2 in a Stream by Conversion to a Syngas for Production of Energy
20170321135 · 2017-11-09 ·

A system and method for producing Syngas from the CO.sub.2 in a gaseous stream, such as an exhaust stream, from a power plant or industrial plant, like a cement kiln, is disclosed. A preferred embodiment includes providing the gaseous stream to pyrolysis reactor along with a carbon source such as coke. The CO.sub.2 and carbon are heated to about 1330° C. and at about one atmosphere with reactants such as steam such that a reaction takes place that produces Syngas, carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) and hydrogen (H.sub.2). The Syngas is then cleaned and provided to a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactor to produce Ethanol or Bio-catalytic synthesis reactor.

CARBON CAPTURE IN FERMENTATION

The invention relates to a method for producing products by microbial fermentation.
