HIGHLY EFFICIENT GAS PERMEABLE DEVICES AND METHODS FOR CULTURING CELLS
This invention relates to methods and devices that improve cell culture efficiency. They include the use of gas permeable culture compartments that reduce the use of space while maintaining uniform culture conditions, and are more suitable for automated liquid handling. They include the integration of gas permeable materials into the traditional multiple shelf format to resolve the problem of non-uniform culture conditions. They include culture devices that use surfaces comprised of gas permeable, plasma charged silicone and can integrate traditional attachment surfaces, such as those comprised of traditional tissue culture treated polystyrene. They include culture devices that integrate gas permeable, liquid permeable membranes. A variety of benefits accrue, including more optimal culture conditions during scale up and more efficient use of inventory space, incubator space, and disposal space. Furthermore, labor and contamination risk are reduced.
MULTI-CHAMBERS BIOREACTOR, METHODS AND USES
The present disclosure relates to a multi-chamber bioreactor, preferably in a polymeric material with a 3D structure, adapted for cell-mono and co-culture, with at least two entries and outputs of culture medium adaptable to be used as a static culture system and to incorporate a dynamic platform creating a bioreactor. The disclosure also relates to a technique based on a bioreactor device that allows the creation of two or more different tissues integrated with the natural phenotype, using an integrated and continuous 3D support structure.
BIOPHARMACEUTICAL LIQUID RESERVOIR WITH MECHANICAL MEMBER INCLUDING ROTATING AND STATIONARY SETS OF PARTS
A biopharmaceutical liquid reservoir, includes a bag forming an inner storage space for storing a biopharmaceutical liquid, a mechanical member located at a wall of the bag, having: a stationary set of parts that is stationary with respect to the wall of the bag, a rotating set of parts rotating about an axis of rotation with respect to the stationary set, a bearing located between the two sets and, inside the bag, a communication passage: separating the bearing from the inner storage space, including one or more changes of direction, being formed by a portion of the parts of the rotating set located opposite a portion of the parts of the stationary set.
METHOD AND ALGAL GROWTH SYSTEM FOR AUTOTROPHIC ALGAL GROWTH
Autotrophic algal growth in high incident light situations may be conducted in a reactor with circulation of algal reaction medium between light and dark zones with very short residence time in the light zone to maintain algal growth in the reactor in a linear growth regime in which the rate of algal biomass production is proportional to the incident photosynthetic photon flux density. Process monitoring and control may permit quick processing in a single step even in open pond systems. Dissolved nitrogen levels in product may be monitored and nitrogen nutrient input may be restricted to reduce dissolved nitrogen in effluent and to increase lipid yield without a separate nitrogen starvation step.
NEW IN VITRO BLOOD-BRAIN BARRIER MODEL
The invention is in the domain of delivery of molecules to brain cells across the blood-brain barrier. The invention relates to a novel polypeptide-based carrier that allows the efficient delivery of an effector peptide, to neuron cells across the blood-brain barrier, and to methods for the production and testing of such carrier, including a model for testing the capacity of such molecule to cross the blood-brain barrier and/or the toxicity of molecules on the blood brain barrier and/or the capacity of molecules that have crossed to target human brain cells (e/g. neurons, astrocytes and microglial cells).
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR SAMPLE PARTITIONING AND ANALYSIS
The present disclosure provides a device that includes a base comprising a substrate having a first major surface, a pressure sensitive adhesive adhered to at least a portion of the first major surface, a polymeric cover film coupled to the substrate via the adhesive, a plurality of isolated closed compartments disposed between the substrate and the cover film, and an aqueous liquid disposed in two or more of the closed compartments. The cover film is a composite film comprising ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer, a linear copolymer of ethylene and a higher alkene, and a tackifier. Each compartment of the plurality is defined by a seal that prevents liquid communication with at least one other compartment of the plurality. Methods of using the device for partitioning a sample, for analyzing a sample, and for culturing a microorganism are also provided.
CONTINUOUS RECOVERY HARVEST BAG
Disclosed herein is a single use continuous recovery, flow-through harvest vessel and corresponding method for harvesting culture medium and simultaneously either leaving the microcarrier beads behind in the vessel or flowing microcarrier beads and medium back into a bioreactor.
MULTICOMPARTMENT BAG FOR CULTIVATION OF CELLS
The invention discloses a flexible plastic bag for cultivation of cells, including a top wall film and a bottom wall film, each having an inside and an outside, sealed to each other inside-to-inside by durable weld seams, optionally via one or more side wall films, to form a bag with an inner volume delimited by the durable weld seams; one or more ports through the top and/or bottom wall film for introduction and withdrawal of fluids; one or more frangible weld seams joining the insides of said top and bottom wall films, dividing the bag inner volume into a plurality of cultivation compartments; and one or more gripping means affixed to the top and bottom wall films, adjacent each of the frangible weld seams and adapted to break a specific frangible weld seam by pulling apart the gripping means on the top and bottom wall films.
