A fluid mixing system includes a support housing having an interior surface bounding a chamber. A flexible bag is disposed within the chamber of the support housing, the flexible bag having an interior surface bounding a compartment. An impeller is disposed within the chamber of the flexible bag. A drive shaft is coupled with the impeller such that rotation of the drive shaft facilitates rotation of the impeller. A drive motor assembly is coupled with the draft shaft and is adapted to rotate the drive shaft. An adjustable arm assembly is coupled with the drive motor assembly and is adapted to move the drive motor assembly which in turn moves the position of the drive shaft and impeller. An electrical controller can control movement of the adjustable arm.

The system includes an antimicrobial treatment mechanism to inactivate microbes flushed from the biological sample by preservation fluid flowed therethrough. The self-purging preservation apparatus is placed in an insulated transport container having a cooling medium. When assembled, the system allows for transport of biological samples for extended periods of time at a stable temperature while simultaneously treating microbial infections to prevent transmission between a donor and a recipient.

An incubator (110, 140) for the reception of an individual sample carrier, a shelving system (100) for such incubators, a transport container for such incubators, as well as a modular system are suggested, wherein the incubators can be inserted and withdrawn (130) independently of one another, can be supplied with electricity, water and a gas via corresponding connections (150), and can communicate with a computer network via a wireless connection. Such a system reduces the risk of contamination or confusion in the lab and avoids interruptions in the monitoring and controlling of the environmental conditions in the respective incubators. These can rather independently maintain the most favourable environmental conditions for the respective samples, both during storage and also during a transport operation. The insertion and withdrawal of individual incubators from the shelving system does not, or only very briefly, interrupt the monitoring and control of the conditions in the interior of the incubators.
