A device simulates a function of a tissue and includes a first structure defining a first chamber, a second structure defining a plurality of second chambers, and a membrane located at an interface region between the first chamber and the plurality of second chambers. The second structure extends along the first chamber. Each of the second chambers has a fluid therein, with each fluid having an agent of a different concentration and/or flowing at a different flow rate. The membrane, which separates the first chamber from the plurality of second chambers, has cells adhered on a first side facing toward the first chamber and on a second side facing toward the plurality of second chambers.

CONCENTRATION MEASURING DEVICE FOR A CONTAINER WITH AN ESSENTIALLY LIQUID CONTAINER CONTENT
20200270562 · 2020-08-27 · ·

A measuring device for a container having a process connection for determining the concentration of a constituent in an essentially liquid container content, comprising a concentration sensor, wherein the measuring device comprises a filter, an extraction line and a pump, wherein the filter is arranged within the container and the concentration sensor is arranged outside of the container, and the extraction line runs, starting from the filter, through the process connection to the concentration sensor, with the concentration sensor being connected to the pump, and the pump conveys the container content from the container through the filter across the extraction line to the concentration sensor, with the extraction line having at least one bend located between the filter and the process connection.

CELL CONCENTRATION METHODS AND DEVICES FOR USE IN AUTOMATED BIOREACTORS

The present disclosure provides cassettes for use in automated cell engineering systems that include cell concentration filters for reducing fluid volume of a cell sample during or following automated processing. The disclosure also provides methods of concentrating a cell population, as well as automated cell engineering systems that can utilize the cassettes and carry out the methods.

Apparatus and methods for bioprocesses and other processes

Apparatus and methods for providing a single-use, disposable module or manifold for testing and analysis of bioprocesses. A module comprising a valve, a filter or guard column, an affinity column, and a flow cell is provided with several ports for receiving tubing connections for a sample and one or more solvents, as well as one or more outlet ports for connections to one or more waste reservoirs. The flow cell may use UV light to determine a protein concentration of a sample in one particular example. The module can be connected directly or indirectly to a bioreactor containing the bioprocess and material to be sampled, and can be disposed of once a production run has been completed. In addition, manifolds are provided which can be embodied as a valve assembly, and which can comprise the same components and features as the disposable module. The manifolds and modules are compact and easy to use. A portable device for use with a module is also provided.

ARTIFICIAL PLACENTA AND METHODS OF PREPARATION

The presently disclosed subject matter provides a microfluidic device that can simulate capillary blood flow on a fetal side of the device and pooled blood on a maternal side of the device (i.e., intervillous space). The microfluidic device can reconstitute the maternal-fetal interface, can expand the capabilities of cell culture models, and can provide an alternative to current maternal-fetal transfer models.

Electrochemical measurement method, electrochemical measurement device and transducer

An electrochemical measurement method for electrochemically measuring a chemical substance generated or consumed in a biological sample in a solution is provided which includes performing measurement by placing the biological sample at a distance away from an electrode surface in the direction perpendicular to the electrode surface. The distance is determined in advance on the basis of simulation in which a current flows through a working electrode.

MONITORING SYSTEM FOR WINEMAKING

Aspects of a monitoring method and system for winemaking are provided. The system comprises at least two sensors, a controller, a wireless transmitter and a wireless receiver. One sensor measures a wine parameter, while the other sensor measures an ambient condition. The controller is able to generate an alarm based on the wine parameter and the ambient condition. The wireless transmitter is able to communicate the wine parameter and the ambient condition to a remote database. The wireless receiver is able to receive a modification to the firmware.

A method of removing nitrogen-bound nitrate from at least one of groundwater, surface water, or waste water is disclosed. The method includes providing contaminant-containing water from groundwater, surface water, and/or waste water sources. The method further includes adding the contaminant-containing water to an algal photobioreactor system. The method further includes adding an alga culture to the alga photobioreactor system. The method further includes adjusting temperature, CO.sub.2 concentration, pH, light wavelength, and/or light intensity in the algal photobioreactor system to optimize the growth of the algae. The method further includes separating the algae from the water and harvesting algal biomass.
