Elongate body with Exoskeleton
20240159085 · 2024-05-16 ·

An elongate body adapted to bend in a single plane, comprises a rope extending within a succession of individual tubular elements closely spaced along the rope. Each element has on two opposite sides of the plane an extended section engaging a recess in its neighbouring element, the profiles of the section and recess allowing relative rotation of adjacent elements in said plane. The tubular elements thus form an exoskeleton around the rope which must be breached before the rope can be cut. The geometry of the tubular elements can be such that notwithstanding gaps, the rope cannot be readily accessed unless the exoskeleton is broken.

Aspects of the present disclosure may relate to a bag having a retractable lock unit that may simultaneously prevent theft of the bag and theft of its contents. The bag may include the retractable lock unit which can be secured to the bag, a zipper system having a pair of zippers, and a locking ring. In some aspects, a user may draw the lock unit from its housing to the pair of zippers and lock the pair of zippers together so as to prevent the bag from being opened. In this way, the bag may provide additional security for the contents while the user has the bag on their person or near themselves. In other aspects, the user may draw the lock unit from its housing around one or more objects before securing it to the locking point and/or a pair of zippers. In this way, the bag may be securely anchored to the one or more objects thus preventing theft of the bag itself as well as preventing theft of the contents.

The lockable roll-top bag of the present invention includes a bag body, and a closing strap which permits a sidewall of the bag body to be folded and closed, with a strap lock provided to secure and lock the ends of the closing strap to maintain the bag in a closed and locked condition. The strap lock not only acts to close and lock the closing strap, but also permits the bag to be secured, in a closed and locked condition, to an associated object or structure. The bag and its contents can thereby be conveniently left unattended, such as at a park or beach, without concern of theft of the bag, or its contents.

A security device has a flexible strap (26) with a lock unit (28) attached at each end. The strap (26) comprises a plurality of longitudinally extending multi-filament cables or ropes (2) arranged in a substantially planar array embedded in an elastomeric material (4). The cables or ropes (2) have a coating of primer for creating a bond with the elastomeric material (4). The primer may be restricted to the external surface of the cables or ropes (2), or some of the surfaces of the filaments may be free of primer. This facilitates relative movement of the filaments during flexure or compression of the strap (26). Moreover, an extrusion process for manufacturing the strap (26) including a priming station (12) is disclosed.
