A microalgal strain of the species Nannochloropsis gaditana is characterized by a mutation of an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of chlorophyll that changes the physiology thereof with respect to the wild-type strain of the same species. In particular, with the mutation, microalgae are formed which, with respect to the wild-type strain of the same species, have a lower chlorophyll content and a reduced capacity to absorb visible radiation (light).

Further, a process for the production of lipids through the cultivation of the mutated Nannochloropsis gaditana strain and the lipids obtained can be used as synthesis intermediates, particularly in the so-called “green-chemistry” sector or in the production of biofuels.

According to the invention, it has been found that when the amount of sulfate used in the culturing of PUFAs-producing cells is selected such that the sulfate concentration drops to zero in the last phase of the growth phase of the cells, an easily disruptable biomass is obtained which has an increased proportion by mass of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the final product.

A novel alga mutant having improved pigment productivity is provided. The mutant can be used to produce carotenoid-based pigments, particularly, xanthophyll by using a small amount of energy, and thus can effectively produce pigment on an industrial level. In addition, the mutant can be used as a source for foods, health functional foods, and medications which contain a pigment. Further, when account is taken of the physiological characteristics of the euryhaline microalgae Dunaliella and the geological characteristics of Korean, the three sides of which are in contact with the sea, sea-water can be used as a culture medium, with the expectation of reducing the cost and leading to the development of related industries.

One or more light sources are implanted into each of the one or more holes. A culture media comprising a carbon source is located inside of the bioreactor. A microalgae comprising a photoreceptor sensitive to a region of a visible spectrum is located in the culture media. Each of the one or more light sources produce an irradiance of light including the region of the visible spectrum in a sufficient intensity to transduce the photoreceptor of the microalgae.

A third method is a low-temperature deep eutectic solvents (DES) extraction method. According to each of these methods, a protein recovery rate is calculated from a protein extract solution of chlorella protein.

The process and system for generating a hydrogen gas stream from a carbon dioxide gas stream comprises converting a first waste carbon dioxide gas stream to an organic feedstock using an algal source in a photosynthesis step. The organic feedstock is then converted using an organism to the hydrogen gas stream and gaseous by-products in a biodecomposition step. The generated hydrogen gas may then be collected.
