Process for the extraction of lipids and sugars from algal biomass

Process for the extraction of lipids and sugars from algal biomass, which comprises: producing an aqueous suspension of algal biomass; bringing the pH of said aqueous suspension of algal biomass to a value higher than or equal to 10, preferably ranging from 10.2 to 12, obtaining an aqueous suspension of algal biomass at basic pH; adding at least one anionic flocculant to said aqueous suspension of algal biomass at basic pH obtaining a concentrated algal biomass; recovering said concentrated algal biomass; subjecting said concentrated algal biomass to extraction of the lipids obtaining: (i) an organic phase comprising lipids; (ii) a semi-solid phase comprising a residue of said algal biomass; subjecting said semi-solid phase (ii) to hydrolysis obtaining sugars. The lipids thus obtained can be advantageously used in the production of biodiesel or green diesel which can be used as such, or in a mixture with other fuels for motor vehicles. The sugars thus obtained can be advantageously used as carbon sources in fermentation processes for the production of lipids and also for the production of alcohols (e.g., ethanol, butanol). Said alcohols can be advantageously used as biofuels for motor vehicles or as components that can be added to fuels for motor vehicles.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REDUCING THE UNFERMENTABLE SOLIDS CONTENT IN A PROTEIN PORTION AT THE BACK END OF A CORN DRY MILLING PROCESS
20190160470 · 2019-05-30 ·

A method and system for reducing the unfermentable solids content in a protein portion, via a counter current wash, at the back end of a corn dry milling process for making alcohol is disclosed. The method can include separating the whole stillage byproduct into an insoluble solids portion and a stillage (centrate) portion, which includes protein. Thereafter, the stillage portion can be separated into a water soluble solids portion and a protein portion. The protein portion may be mixed with clean water to wash and dilute the protein portion. The diluted protein portion may be dewatered to form a dewatered protein portion and a centrate. A portion of the centrate may be used as a protein counter current wash when the protein portion is being separated from the stillage portion. The protein counter current wash reduces the amount of unfermentable solids in the protein portion and the centrate.

Method for producing psicose

The present invention relates to a method for effectively utilizing fructose raffinate obtained in the process for separating psicose conversion product with a high purity chromatography in the process for preparing psicose, and more specifically, it is utilized for preparation of fructose-containing raw material solution for preparing psicose by supplying the fructose raffinate obtained in the separation step of psicose preparation into the psicose conversion reaction.

A process for enabling the production of a particulate composition containing crystalline trehalose dihydrate is provided. Including allowing an -glycosyltrehalose-forming enzyme to act on liquefied starch derived from a microorganism of the genus Arthrobacter and a trehalose-releasing enzyme derived from a microorganism of the genus Arthrobacter along with a starch debranching enzyme and a cyclomaltodextrin glucanotransferase; allowing glucoamylase to act on the resulting mixture to obtain a saccharide solution containing ,-trehalose; precipitating crystalline ,-trehalose dihydrate from the above saccharide solution; collecting the precipitated crystalline ,-trehalose dihydrate by a centrifuge; and ageing and drying the collected crystals. Cyclomaltodextrin glucanotransferase derived from a microorganism of the genus Paenibacillus or a mutant enzyme thereof is used to increase the ,-trehalose content in the saccharide solution to over 86.0% by weight, on a dry solid basis, without passing through a fractionation step by column chromatography.

Method for preparing psicose

A method for obtaining psicose from a mixture of fructose and psicose includes adding a mannitol dehydrogenase to a mixture of fructose and psicose to convert fructose into mannitol, and separating the mannitol from the psicose. Accordingly, the psicose can be more easily isolated from the mannitol with high efficiency by using the method.
