Structured material alloy component fabrication
A novel manufacturing method for functionally graded component includes a cold sprayed additive manufactured core material and a cold sprayed additive manufactured set of teeth around said core made from another material.
Method for manufacturing gear
The present disclosure provides a method for manufacturing a gear capable of processing a projection formed on a tooth tip by shot peening while reducing time for manufacturing the gear. A method for manufacturing a gear includes: a process of hardening, by performing shot peening in which shot particles are jetted onto a tooth surface 1a of a gear base material, the tooth surface while applying residual stress to the tooth surface; a process of softening, by at least heating a tooth tip of the gear base material having the hardened tooth surface, the tooth tip; and a process of rotationally driving the gear base material having the softened tooth tip by engaging it with another gear.
Method for producing a workpiece provided with a toothing or profiling
A method for producing a workpiece having a toothing or profiling, including the steps: a) soft machining the workpiece to produce the toothing or profiling; b) hardening the toothing or profiling; c) hard fine machining the toothing or profiling with a first tool that is a grinding worm, a grinding wheel or a honing wheel, wherein the first tool has a base body with a first elastic modulus; d) reinforcement of at least a section of the workpiece by shot blasting; and, following step d), e) repeated hard fine machining of the toothing or profiling with a second tool that is a grinding worm, a grinding wheel, a set of grinding wheels or a honing wheel. The second tool has a plastic or rubber base body with a second elastic modulus which is at most 33% of the first elastic modulus.
Induction heating device
An induction heating device for heating a metal article includes a support plate with an upper surface for receiving the metal article, and a plurality of induction coils, which are arranged concentrically around an axis and are provided at an underside of the support plate. Each induction coil is connected to and selectively powered by a generator, and at least one temperature probe is disposable on the metal article during heating in order to monitor and control the heating of the article.
METHOD OF MAKING AN INTERAXLE DIFFERENTIAL UNIT AND AN ANNULAR CASE
A method of making an interaxle differential unit. The method may include piercing a workpiece and then ring roll forging the workpiece to form an annular case that is a seamless ring. The annular case may be heat treated before installing an interaxle differential unit gear nest inside the annular case.
CORROSION PITTING RESISTANT MARTENSITIC STAINLESS STEEL AND METHOD FOR MAKING SAME
A method of making a forged, martensitic, stainless steel alloy is provided. The alloy is a forged preform of martensitic, pitting corrosion resistant stainless steel alloy comprising, by weight: 12.0 to 16.0 percent chromium; greater than 16.0 to 20.0 percent cobalt, 6.0 to 8.0 percent molybdenum, 1.0 to 3.0 percent nickel, 0.02 to 0.04 percent carbon; and the balance iron and incidental impurities. The alloy has a microstructure that comprises a retained austenite phase less than or equal to 2 percent by volume of the microstructure. The method heats the preform to a solutionizing temperature to form a solutionized microstructure. The preform is cooled with a liquid to room temperature. The preform is immersed in a cryo-liquid to transform the retained austenite phase in the microstructure to martensite. The preform is heated to a temperature of less than 600° F. for a time sufficient to form a tempered forged preform.
Machine component
A machine component includes a core made up of a steel for machine structural use, and a medium carbon-containing layer and a high carbon-containing layer formed of the steel for machine structural use, the medium carbon-containing layer covering the core, the high carbon-containing layer covering the medium carbon-containing layer and having a carbon concentration of 0.8-1.5%. The high carbon-containing layer is made up of a martensitic structure having carbides dispersed therein and a residual austenitic structure, wherein spheroidized carbides with an aspect ratio of 1.5 or less constitute 90% or more of a total number of the carbides, and the number of spheroidized carbides on prior austenite grain boundaries is 40% or less of the total number of the carbides.
