A vacuum arc remelt apparatus comprising a crucible having a wall, said wall having an interior and an exterior opposite said interior; an electrode within the crucible proximate the interior; an ingot within the crucible and below the electrode, wherein said ingot includes a crown and shelf; and a vibration source at the exterior of the crucible proximate the crown and shelf.
Carbothermic direct reduction of chromite using a catalyst for the production of ferrochrome alloy
A direct reduction process for the production of ferrochrome from chromite ore or concentrate is disclosed. According to the present invention, calcium chloride (CaCl.sub.2) is added as a catalyst to accelerate the solid reduction and enhance the particle growth of the metallic phase (i.e. ferrochrome) during reduction. The reduction of chromite ore or concentrate takes place at much lower temperatures (e.g. 1200 to 1400° C.) compared to the conventional smelting technologies, and the ferrochrome particles formed are segregated from the unwanted residual gangue and spinel particles, facilitating their subsequent physical separation.
System and method for cleaning magnesium scrap for re-melting with reduced environmental impact
The present disclosure teaches magnesium scrap cleaning processes that remove surface oil, grease, hydrocarbons, and other contaminants from dirty, magnesium scrap produced from different machining operations and provide clean magnesium scrap ready for re-melting. The magnesium scrap cleaning processes can reduce the dross produced during re-melting of the magnesium scrap.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION PURIFIED, ESPECIALLY HIGH PURITY, MAGNESIUM
A device for producing purified, especially high-purity, magnesium includes a reactor for vacuum distillation that is extended along a longitudinal axis (L). The reactor defines a reactor inner chamber having a heating region for heating magnesium. A crucible forms a crucible inner chamber for receiving purified magnesium vaporized and condensed by the device. A radial projection in the heating region defines a contact surface that extends essentially transverse to the longitudinal axis (L) and forms an essentially sealed connection with an edge of the crucible adjacent to the crucible inner chamber.
Method for producing magnesium by distillation
The present invention discloses a method for producing high-purity magnesium by semi-continuous distillation, comprising the following steps of: (1) melting crude magnesium or recycled mixed metal containing magnesium containing various impurities in a melting boiler; (2) feeding the molten crude magnesium into a second boiler by a magnesium liquid delivery pump, and maintaining a temperature of 665 C. to 700 C.; (3) sucking the high-temperature magnesium liquid into a crude distillation column in vacuum by a magnetic liquid suction pipe that is inserted into the intermediate boiler and connected to the crude distillation column. Magnesium is condensed into liquid in the rectification column, then discharged from a liquid seal of the rectification column, and ingoted in a refined magnesium die to obtain high-purity magnesium products.

Apparatus and method for the removal of unwanted inclusions from metal melts
Apparatus and method for filtering molten metal, in particular aluminium, including a container (1) with an outer shell or casing of metal and an inner thermally insulated interior cladding or wall construction made of heat resistant insulation and refractory material. A removable lid (2) provided on top of the container to keep the container sealed (air tight) during operation, the container (1) being provided with an inlet chamber (3) having an inlet opening (4) receiving metal from a metal supply launder (10) and an outlet chamber (5) with an outlet opening (6) in which a ceramic or refractory filter (7) is mounted.
MOLTEN SALT ELECTROREFINING APPARATUS AND REFINING METHOD
The present invention provides a molten-salt electrolytic refining apparatus for refining a raw-material alloy containing indium using a molten-salt electrolytic refining method. The molten-salt electrolytic refining apparatus includes a reaction crucible provided in a reaction container so as to be filled with a molten-salt electrolytic solution, an anode and a cathode immersed in the molten-salt electrolytic solution, an anode crucible in which a liquid raw-material alloy is contained, a cathode crucible in which at least one raw-material metal included in the raw-material alloy is recovered in a liquid phase, and a heater provided so that the temperature of the molten-salt electrolytic solution is adjusted to be equal to or greater than the melting temperature of the raw-material alloy. The present invention also provides a molten-salt electrolytic refining method which includes recovering indium (In) from an indium-tin (InSn) alloy using a molten-salt electrolytic solution containing fluoride.
