Metallic matrix composites synthesized with uniform in situ formed reinforcement
Metallic matrix composites are synthesized by mixing a first reactant, a second reactant and a nucleator compound to obtain a reaction mixture, and heating the reaction mixture to an auto-activation temperature to initiate a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis reaction between the first and second reactants. The metallic matrix composite can include a metallic matrix and an in situ formed reinforcement. The reinforcement can be formed of discrete particles substantially uniformly dispersed within the metallic matrix. Each of the particles can have a reinforcement constituent disposed about a core formed of the nucleator compound.

WIRING MATERIAL FOR SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICE, WIRING FOR SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME, AND SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICE INCLUDING THE WIRING
Provided are a wiring material for a semiconductor device, the wiring material including a boride-based compound containing boron and at least one metal selected from elements of Groups 2 to 14, a wiring for a semiconductor device including the same, and a semiconductor device including the wiring containing the wiring material.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING ALLOYS OF PRECIOUS METALS AND ALLOYS OF PRECIOUS METALS THUS OBTAINED
A method for manufacturing an alloy formed from a boride of a precious metal, may involve reacting a source of the precious metal with a source of boron in a salt or a mixture of salts in the molten state. An alloy formed from a boride of a precious metal may include crystalline nanoparticles of M.sub.xB.sub.y with M being a precious metal, distributed in an amorphous matrix of B or in an amorphous matrix of B and of M.sub.zB.sub.a.
Heterogeneous composite bodies with isolated cermet regions formed by high temperature, rapid consolidation
A heterogeneous composite consisting of near-nano ceramic clusters dispersed within a ductile matrix. The composite is formed through the high temperature compaction of a starting powder consisting of a core of ceramic nanoparticles held together with metallic binder. This core is clad with a ductile metal such that when the final powder is consolidated, the ductile metal forms a tough, near-zero contiguity matrix. The material is consolidated using any means that will maintain its heterogeneous structure.
Systems and methods for making ceramic powders
Systems and methods for making ceramic powders configured with consistent, tailored characteristics and/or properties are provided herein. In some embodiments a system for making ceramic powders, includes: a reactor body having a reaction chamber and configured with a heat source to provide a hot zone along the reaction chamber; a sweep gas inlet configured to direct a sweep gas into the reaction chamber and a sweep gas outlet configured to direct an exhaust gas from the reaction chamber; a plurality of containers, within the reactor body, configured to retain at least one preform, wherein each container is configured to permit the sweep gas to flow therethrough, wherein the preform is configured to permit the sweep gas to flow there through, such that the precursor mixture is reacted in the hot zone to form a ceramic powder product having uniform properties.
