Disclosed herein are embodiments of wear resistant alloys, such as ferrous alloys, that can have reduced carbide contents. In some embodiments, the alloys may have no carbides. In some, the alloy may have boride phases, such as phases having high Mo+W content and/or high Fe+Cr content. There can be reduced hardphases levels out of the specifically disclosed boride phases in some embodiments. In some embodiments, hypereutectic chromium borides can have limited incorporation into the disclosed alloys.

Provided is a metal-based material having a high hardness. A metal-based composite material of the present invention is formed from a sintered body obtained from Ti material powder, Mo material powder, Ni material powder, and ceramics powder, and 0.1 to 9 parts by mass of Ni is contained with respect to 100 parts by mass of the entirety of the metal-based composite material.

In one aspect, cobalt-based alloys are described herein comprising composition and microstructure permitting a balance of hardness, toughness and wear resistance desirable for wood cutting applications. A cobalt-based alloy comprises a chromium rich carbide phase in an amount of 15-30 volume percent, a tungsten-rich phase in an amount of 9-15 volume percent and a balance of cobalt-rich solid solution matrix comprising nickel, chromium, vanadium and tungsten.
