THERMAL BARRIER COATING SYSTEM AND PROCESSES FOR FORMING A THERMAL BARRIER COATING SYSTEM
A process for forming a thermal barrier coating system on a substrate is disclosed including preparing a slurry including a donor powder, an activator powder, and a binder. The donor powder includes a metallic aluminum alloy having a melting temperature higher than aluminum, and the binder includes at least one organic polymer gel. The process further includes applying the slurry to the substrate, heating the slurry to form an aluminide bond coating including an additive aluminide layer and an aluminide interdiffusion zone disposed between the substrate and the additive aluminide layer, and applying a thermal barrier coating to the aluminide bond coating. The thermal barrier coating may be a dense vertically-cracked thermal barrier coating, and the substrate may be a gas turbine component. Thermal barrier coating systems formed by the process are also disclosed.
Internal Aluminization of Coated Substrates
A method for coating a component having: a metallic substrate; a ceramic coating having one or more ceramic coating layers atop the substrate; and a cooling passageway system comprising a plurality of feed passageways extending from one or more inlet ports and a plurality of outlet passageways. The outlet passageways have openings in the coating. The method involves: applying a slurry aluminide to the plurality of outlet passageways; coupling the one or more inlets to a suction source; applying an external gas flow to the component, the suction source drawing the external gas in through the outlet passageways and out through the one or more inlet ports, the external gas flow comprising at least 50% by volume combined one to all of Ar, He, and H.sub.2; and while the suction source is drawing the external gas, heating the component to aluminize the cooling passageway system.
Method for converting an existing industrial unit to produce hydrogen from ammonia
A method for converting an existing steam methane reformer (SMR) to produce hydrogen via ammonia cracking is provided. The method can include the steps of: providing the existing SMR, wherein the SMR was formerly used to produce hydrogen from a hydrocarbon feedstock; and improving the nitridation resistance of the inner surface of the equipment by adding a protective layer to an inner surface of equipment to be used in the existing SMR, wherein the equipment is selected from the group consisting of a catalyst tube, feed piping, a feed preheater, process gas heat exchangers, and combination thereof.

Surface-functionalized metal foil and method of preparing the same
The present disclosure relates to a surface-functionalized metal foil and a method of preparing the same. According to the method of preparing the surface-functionalized metal foil, metal nanoparticles are adsorbed as a single layer on a metal substrate, and then the metal nanoparticles are irradiated with light to form a surface functional layer.
